Played a great round on the Craighead course on New Years Eve - course was in great condition, greens great and was a real pleasure to play. Challenging with the wind.Clubhouse was super with views to die forBalcomie course next time - hopefully soon!

We played the Balcomie on a very windy day with 30mph gusts and still came back with smiles on our faces.I loved the variety of holes and the stunning views. We were a family group with handicaps of 5, 17, 18 and 27 and we all enjoyed the course. There are a number of risk /reward holes which are great fun (and costly on golf balls!).We had been staying at St Andrews and played the Jubilee and Eden courses. We preferred Balcomie and it thought it much better value. The clubhouse was excellent with lovely views of the sea. Good quality, choice of food for a well earned lunch.Definitely worth a visit.

Played at Crail yesterday (4th December), the course was in superb condition, no mats, we were lucky that it was a lovely day but it has to be said the course was magnificent. Also many thanks to Graeme Lennie for looking after us, a true Professional, thank you.

Played Balcomie links sunday past with GolfScotland movember charity event.Course was in tremendous condition for the time of year.Greens were running true and fast and were a delight to putt on.Fairways were also excellent especially as no winter mats were in use.I have played a lot of links courses up and down the east coast of Scotland and i must admit this is up there with the very best of them.A truly wonderful test of your game.Be prepared to use every club in your bag.The clubhouse is very nice also with super views over the closing holes and north sea.Catering facilities are very good. All in all i can't recommend this superb links highly enough.

Crail Courses are well worth the visit, and the club hospitality is second to none. However if its a blowing a hooley, make sure you take your " A " game or lots of balls. For non Golfers the scenery is still worth walking around.

We had an unforgettable round at Balcomie. Strong winds really made the course very challenging. The views are simply awesome. Gem of links Golf in the closer surroundings of St. Andrews. Will come back to play again!

Played the Balcomie. Very enjoyable course. The facilities for visitors are very good.Struck me that they had set themselves out to attract visitors.

Four of us played the craighead course on a Sunday. Don't play here unless you want to wear ear defenders , the noise from the local Kart and Drag racing was overwhelming. The course itself was interesting with lots of blind shots over stone walls! The greens had been spiked and were slow the fairways were not up to the standard I would expect paying £80 a round.Earlier in the week we played The Jubillee Course at St Andrews £75 a round a far better experience.

Crail is a classic links course. It is a pleasure to play the Balcomie course. Especially with a lot of wind, you have to master all facets of the game of golf.

All the family had a wonderful afternoon at Crail Golfing Society. Hauntingly beautiful setting by the sea. The course is in immaculate condition, the tees, fairways and greens are true links, very beautiful. I got the best ball marker at the pro shop that I´ve ever had. They were very friendly with our four ball consisting of a 12yr old right through to a 65year old, staff at the clunhouse are super friendly and welcoming.

Crail Golfing Society has two courses: the 1895 Balcomie Links--a must play destination for your Scottish vacation--laid out by Old Tom Morris, and the longer, modern Craighead course designed by Gil Hanse. Craighead is a tough track with very good views, but Balcomie is brilliant, fun, and has spectacular views. For the price, Balcomie gives Kingsbarns and the Castle Course a run for your money. Play it and you'll be happy you did.Head pro Graeme Lennie and assistant pro David Snodgrass will handle all your needs, including getting you a gas buggy ( golf cart) if needed. Be sure to have a meal in the clubhouse after, with stunning views of the North Sea and Firth of Forth.

We are two couples on a golf vacation and we are all so happy we played this course. It is right down the road from Kingsbarns and has fantastic views of the sea. The course is very challenging and much tighter than Kingsbarns. We had a breezy day to play and that added a wonderful challenge to our games. The Balcomie course is in great shape and the greens were faster than others we've played thus far. The people were very friendly to us and they even change the flags out front to represent the countries of the people playing the course that day. I would recommend at least one caddie for a foursome because it can be a challenge to figure out where the next hole is and they really do help with shot placement. There are some hills to climb between holes so I would also recommend an electric trolley versus a regular one. Overall, if you are planning a St. Andrews golf trip, then Crail should be on your list.

The Balcomie course runs along the coastline with wonderful views across the Tay Estuary in the distance. It is a wonderful holiday treat to play golf on this old links which can trace its roots back to 1786, especially if the sun is shining and the east wind does not blow. It is kept in very good condition with petrol engine buggies available for those with medical certificates and trolleys either manual or electric to hire. The staff are most welcoming and the clubhouse has been upgraded over recent years to a high standard. It is positioned on a bluff so there are fantastic views of the course and sea from the lounges. I much enjoyed the homemade tomato and roasted red pepper soup for lunch with a half baguette of steak and onions. Great value for £5.95. Next week we are playing the Craighead course which Members now rate as a serious test of golf being some 1,000 yards longer than the Balcomie. The Crail Golfing Society is a must for all discerning golfers visiting the East Neuk of Fife.

We played the Craighead course on 09/07/2014. Weather was fantastic, sunny with very light wind. Apparently, these are unusual conditions. Played from the yellow tees. The course is well maintained. The greens in particular are tricky and fast. Wasn't so keen on the fairways, which had a meadow type feel to them, not the tight lies we experienced on other courses we had played in Fife. There aren't many memorable holes, but the approach to the second makes it into the memory banks as well as the particularly tricky green on the par 3 17th.What made the course for me were the excellent views. Glorious on a day like we had. I would imagine it might not be as good an experience if the weather was a bit iffy.I would recommend a round here, but having ignored several pieces of advice that we should play the Balcomie first, I would probably play that course before returning to the Craighead.
