William Burrells

The overall visitor experience was good. The collection is top quality and the guided tour of the building was informative. On the downside the building is getting a bit run down and the upper story was completely closed.

This is a really nice collection of antiquities, textiles, stained glass, ceramics, etc. Check before going, as it is likely closing for repairs to its leaky roof in the near future. Definitely worth a visit.

In comparison to Kelvingrove and Riverside museums (they, in my opinion, have unnecessary interactive displays, too much junk and are overcrowded with children) Burrell collection is a Scandinavian take on displaying art and bric-a-brac. The glass walls allow much natural light and create a green foresty background for the observation of display items. The atmosphere makes you want to engage more with every painting and every weird toy Burrell decided to buy. I highly recommend this place but I secretly hope that it remains less popular than Kelvingrove.

Overall, the Burrell Collection is an amazing off the beaten path museum in Glasgow that is well worth the visit for its amazing diversity of art and cultural works from all over the world! The Burrell collection is extremely impressive of quality and quantity. Seeing amazing stain glass windows, Islamic art, Egyptian, Chinese and much more was amazing. If you want to read everything it would take you a whole day to go through the museum. When we went on a Monday afternoon it was very empty and we felt we had the whole places to ourselves but given how big it is you shouldn't have a problem on a busy day. The rooms with very old furniture and items were cleverly made to look like rooms in a house even within the museum. The entire collection was very well presented and explained. The building's architecture is also quite beautiful with big wooden beams and large glass windows. It felt very airy and nice and just added to the wonderful and impressive artwork. Finally, the gift shop has quite an impressive selection of interesting items that were very much worth perusing.

It's great to hear from people who love the Burrell, thank you so much for your review. We did have to close the upstairs galleries because of the risk of water damaging the objects, but the majority of the paintings that were on display there can now be seen on the ground floor, with some extra interpretation and even a few bigger works that didn't fit upstairs.Work is well advanced on plans for a refurbishment of the museum, which will resolve many of the issues you mention. The team looks forward to seeing you on your next visit.

Do dip your toes into this wee hideaway in Pollok park and the lovely glass fronted building houses the Burrell collection the suits of armour the pieces of archaeology and pieces of clothing from years gone by don't really give me much of a thrill am sad to say am not that fussed. I do like how they recreated the look of a castle and a bedroom so gloomy of old. I love the tranquility of sitting on the leather square seats looking at the middle of the park forestry with squirrels running up and down. Free to enter, lovely clean toilets at the front, a giftshop with lots of CRM jewellery , books , bags, toys, stationary, postcards etc, and a cafe as well upstairs. There are exhibitions on from time to time and it's a lovely modern building so go on in am sure you will enjoy it and if you don't, as it's artyfarty, then at least it was free! Disabled access and plenty of parking too. There are parking meters but I have never seen anyone buy a ticket and no one seems to bother their backside and issue a penalty ticket!

Actually its been longer than a year since I visited but I still remember was an absolute joy it was to visit. Everything beautifully laid out, and so many different things from oils to sculpture etc. You need half a day to do it some justice and a full day to give it full consideration. A break in between times at the lovely restaurant will keep you going. Must get back for a second visit soon! Nicola Best
