The Lyle Hill in Greenock is a "must visit" vantage point for visitors, as it provides a panoramic view of the well known "Tail of the Bank", Only five minutes by car from the town centre, visitors should be sure to take their cameras. Views from the summit encompass the river from Dunoon almost to the Erskine Bridge, as well as the local Greenock Golf Club, a 125 year old course designed by James Braid - a rare treat for golfers.

Lovely views I went on our last day early on a Sunday morning (with a hangover) and it was stunning. Bring your camera!

Easily accessed by road with plenty of free street side parking, this is a real Kodak moment location. There are two vantage points, one on either side of the road and both with awesome panoramic views of the bay and mountains. We even saw a submarine making its way across the bay.

The view from the Lyle Hill is the 2nd best view on the planet.....according to my friend Doug, from Denver, USA, who says that the best is the view over the bay with the Golden Gate Bridge in California...guess I'll have to go there to see as I stay on Lyle Hill and it has a fantastic vista!

Every time I go up to the Lyle hill where the "Free French Memorial" is a sense of excitement at the knowledge I will see one of the best views in Greenock. The hill overlooks the Gourock bay and Battery park.Looking out over Gourock and the Firth of Clyde beyond to Helensburgh, Kilcreggan and Dunoon with the hills and mountains beyond. There are two viewing points and three places for cars to park. A great place for a picknic and short walk with a golf course behind.

The best view of Gourock, Loch Long, Holy Loch and the Argyllshire hills. Also take in the memorial of the Cross of Lorraine!

The first time we visited the Free French Monument on Lyle Hill was in 1965 when we viewed the massive Home Fleet moored below us in the River Clyde awaiting Queen Elizabeth's Inspection. There have been several improvements to its environs over the years eg proper off road carparks etc. but the wonderful panoramic views remain the same.

Stunning views, very well kept area. Normally very quiet; the perfect place for quiet contemplation overlooking the Clyde. Should be noted that although quiet, some cars do speed through the road and can come out of nowhere as the road is quite hilly. Any little ones should be kept under an observing eye, just to be extra sure. :)

If you've got a car, try cruise up to the top - to the look out point as it has an amazing view overlooking Gourock and Greenock.

A steep walk to the top but well worth it. Looking across the River Clyde to the beautiful scenery of Argyll. This includes the Holy Loch near the town of Dunoon - home to the American Navy for many years. Look down on the town of Gourock, once a holiday resort and a seaside day out for the people of Glasgow. Don't forget your passport, The Cross of Lorraine, a memorial to the Free French Navy who were based in Greenock during WW11. The land on which the Cross is built was gifted to the people of France and is officially French soil. Walking towards the town again enjoy a stroll through the West End of Greenock with the wonderful Architecture of the houses built for the richer people of the town during the 1800s

And well worth it as long as it not raining! Wonderful view over the area and great photographic place. Quite steep so need to be able to walk easily - make sure you get right to the top and see the Anchor

One of the most beautiful views in Scotland. On a clear day you can see for miles. You need to come to Inverclyde and experience the spectacular views.
