We trudged past the closed amusement park to this art museum, and started with a lovely, simple and cheap lunch at their cafe, overlooking the sculpture garden and the lake - a beautiful setting. The museum is quite small in a modern gallery design which presents true works very well. The current Marika Makela exhibition is excellent and really captured the imagination of our children. They now know why we have had trouble sourcing glitter glue back home in Australia. It is a small place and only needs a couple of hours. I suggest checking reviews of the current show, as when we were there we saw little from any permanent collection of modern / contemporary art.

I have visited Sara Hilden Art Museum several times. Exhibitions are always interesting or they give you something to think about. The museum is not too big to visit with chlidren and it is located near city centre, at beautiful small cape, near Särkänniemi. At beautiful weather it is walking distance from centre. Pop in and have a cup coffee.

This is my favorite museum in Tampere, I've visited there several times over the years - 3 times only this year. Exhibitions are interesting, both local and international (e.g. this year Andy Warhol and Ellen Gallagher). Also the exhibitions of museum's own art collection are good. I also love the building and the view's from the big windows to the lake Näsijärvi. There's also cafeteria in the bottom floor serving good pastry. Guided tours are good and staff is friendly.Don't be fightened because of the location on side of Särkänniemi amusement park, museum is not noisy.

Travelled to Tampere in order to visit an exhibition of Marika Mäkeläs paintings. It was hard to believe that the museum shares the ground with Tampere´s amusement park and the contrast between this area and the museum could not be bigger. The exhibition was just perfect and the simplicity of the building (almost pure concrete) brings out the art even more.On the other hand there are big windows which allow a view outside to the lovely enviroment and especially the lake. There are some pieces of art in the garden and it reminds me from the setting a bit of Louisiana Museum close to Copenhagen.Definitely would come back again!

I wanted to see the exhibition of Marika Mäkelä's art work, and the museum offered also good booklets (free to borrow) to get explanations behind the paintings. As the paintings were quite big, the chairs were in the middle of the halls which created a good place to see the paintings from a distance. Overall very happy, only the location (middle of amusement park) is not so good.

I liked the museum building, but not very much the exhibition itself (Andy Warhol). The car access to the museum was blocked because of the traffic to the adjacent amusement park. Unpleasantly long walk for my disabled companion. Still, the museum was well worth visiting.

This beautiful museum has their own amazing art collection plus they have several international exhibitions every year. Not in the center but easy to find.

I was happy to spend some amazing moments here at Andy Warhol's exhibition. It was Mother's Day so there were lot of people visiting the museum but the exhibition space wasn't too crowded. I enjoyed Warhols and afterwards we went for a walk at the art museum garden which is located next to Näsijärvi lake and decorated with interesting sculptures. There is a cafe at the art museum so you can buy a cup of coffee if you want. The souvenirs can be purchased from the art museum ticket counter or from the shop at the downstairs of Näsinneula tower. Näsinneula tower is next to the museum so don't forget to visit it as well.

The museum is located on the shore of lake Näsijärvi, squeezed between the amusement park ant the lake. The obstervation tower Näsinneula is in the same area. The parking can be crowded during summer season, but off season You can drive next to the museum, just keep the tower on Your left and circle around it. Several busses pass by, get off on the "Särkänniemi" stop. The museum itself is a concrete building that could go unnoticed, but views from inside are nice.I went to see the Callagher exhibition this winter which blew me away and was very skilfully presented. I hear the Warhol exhibition is worth visiting, too. The tickets are in my opinion quite unexpensive. There is a cafeteria in the ground floor.

Andy Warhol´s exhibition made me happy and sad at the same time. Happy for seeing all the amazing art already familiar from books, movies and magazines, sad for trying to figure out who A.W. really was and how he lived his life. Successful yes, but was he happy and satisfied?

Sara Hilden Art Museum is an attraction itself, very functional art museum and couple of natrural pieces of art: views to Näsijärvi lake, living work of art. But now Sara Hilden is a must to go - Ellen Gallagher is very acclaimed contemporary artists from North America and now one can see her imaginative and diverse works in Finland; not often seen this side of Atlantic Ocean. After 26.1.2014 you have to travel to Munich to see this exhibition.

The Sara Hildén Art Museum is a permanent home of the collection of Finnish and foreign modern art. It is owned by the Sara Hildén Foundation and maintained by the City of Tampere. It is located within a walking distance from the downtown of Tampere beside Särkänniemi amusement park. I estimate it takes about 20 minutes walk from the central square.I have seen several exhibitions in this museum. For me it is not only about the modern art works that I like there. The building itself has been designed so that you can enjoy the scenery each season of the year with a nice views to the lake of Näsijärvi. You can also enjoy good service and delicious pastries in Café Sara. The cafeteria (with a terrace during the summer time) is open not only for the visitors of the museum but also for those who just want enjoy a cup of coffee, tea or a glass of wine etc.I just visited the museum to see the African-American artist Ellen Gallagher's AxME exhibition which is open until January 26, 2014. I joined a guided 45 minutes tour. The guide was excellent and knew a lot about background of the artist which gave me much more insight to her works.
