This is an amazing journey, as you snake up the mountain, wonderful views all round, and the trip down is simply out of this world. At the top is a lovely lake with a restaurant on it, the food is very good. In winter they build an Ice hotel, for those who love the cold.. You can wander round and even climb higher. Local produce is on sale, as well as souvenirs. Allow plenty of time to enjoy and explore..

it is open only from JULY to the end of OCTOBER due to weather conditions and also it is closed during the night but you can camp alongside the road if you want to spend a night on top of the mountains and under the starry nightthis road links 2 important regions in Romania, Muntenia and Transilvania through the Fagaras Mountainsyou can't miss it if you visit Romania during summer-autumn seasonsguaranteed to take your breath away !PS: you should see the video TopGear made in one of their shows on our Transfagarasan

It is difficult to describe the feeling when you almost climb just before the Balea Lac pass and look back and see all those curves and the amazing view.Especially when you climb up there with a loaded bicycle. My best cycle experience and of cource one of my best travell experience ever!!!

It is a very special road going between the mountains and with an excellent scene view all the way to the top. I was there in July and experienced the lake with snow around me and clear sunny sky. wow!!!

the road from the Avrig side to the top is excellent for sightseeing and twisty roads, it's challenging and rewarding, there are numerous stops enroute to the summit where food drink trinkets etc can be bought. on a nice day the views are stunning, but and it's a big but if you choose unwisely, as we did, to continue down the other side towards the dam you are rewarded with possibly the worst road in the world, the 7c !!! it's 60 kms of the widest deepest potholes on your riding line, on every bend and every apex, it will rattle your fillings, bike, and kit. it will test your suspension to the limit, and as if that aint enough the wild dogs will launch them selves at you as you pass by. go to the Grossglockner, its better

Really worth to see and if yore able even climb a little. Quite difficult road for driving by car, but definitely worth to see.

Not for the faint of heart, this is a twisting, winding, narrow road which climbs high into the Transylvanian Alps. You definitely want to trust your driver, which we fortunately did. It was really something to see though, and I am very glad that we did the drive. On the other side, the fall foliage was jaw dropping and a trip to Romania would not, in my opinion, be complete without taking this roller coaster ride!

Fantastic road, especially when the weather is right. Great views on both sides, would go again in a second.

Transfagarasan is the best road in Romania, and one of the most beautiful in the world, like The Top Gear guy's said.

If it's really the most beautiful road in the world (according to Top Gear) I don't know and it really doesn't matter. What us sure: This is one of the roads to take for stunning views. The trees in autumn colors, the blue sky and a good car - I was fortunate enough to be able to experience the Transfagarasan on a picture perfect day in October. I started the ascend from the north side at around 11am and arrived at Lake Balea at 12:30. I stopped along the road quite often to enjoy the different vistas and take photos.I didn't stop at the lake but drove through the tunnel to descent the highway on the southern side. The views of the mountains are even better and one can stop at a waterfall. Also the autumn colors on this side are much more impresssive. I drove all the way to Lake Viadru before I turned around and drove back to Lake Balea. There I arrived at around 3pm and light was beautiful to take pictures of the lake. Yes, there were other people but not as many as one would have expected on a perfect autumn day. I believe this road is more impressive in autumn and I can highly recommend this trip. I did it as a day trip from Sibiu but of course one can also do it from Brasov.

After a week exploring Transylvania, the Transfagarasan Highway was the best way to head south through Romania.Drive to Cartisoara to pick up the northern end of the highway. Be sure to stop at Balea Lake near the peak (before entering the tunnel to begin the descent). You'll know that you are there when you see rows of vendor stalls set up along the side of the road selling a variety of goods. There is a nice restaurant that overlooks the lake - a great spot for lunch.A great road to drive and some lovely views.

We spent a whole day getting to and driving this road. It's praised to the skies by those overgrown and somewhat embarrassing adolescents aka the Top Gear presenters. The most interesting parts of the drive are at the beginning and the end, as you drive through the gypsy villages. At the top of the mountain drive there's a bit of a lake and some stalls selling over-priced tat. You don't get much of a view of the big lake on the climb up (from the south) as the road is lined with trees. It's pleasant enough, but over-rated. I've driven on much nicer mountain roads in Italy, Spain, France, Crete, Scotland, USA. In fact the road I live on here in the High Peak may be not so high, but it's more scenic. I was left thinking why? I don't accept Jeremy Clarkson's opinion on cars or politics, so why did I get conned into taking his opinion on roads? I suppose we should be thankful he didn't drive the road with some facetious number-plate insulting the Romanians.

Breathtaking drive, gorgeous views, especially the north side viewed from the top (it looks like all Formula 1 circuits connected together and placed in this amazing setting).Don't miss the lake near the top... a bit hidden, but definitely worth a stop.Of course drive carefully as in some areas there are no guard-rails.

This road is very nice to drive with beautiful views. The best way to drive this road is entering it from the north side to the top and go back the same way. After the top it is not a spectacular road and a bit boring. The only way to drive this road is to see a lake with a nice view.

Highest mountains in Romania, the Hfagrs, including peak "Moldoviano" 2544 meters above sea level did not stop the megalomania of Tzaotzasko ruler of Romania in the seventies of the last century, and here was built for about five years road wild landscape and spectacular, crossing the ridge, at altitudes above 2000 meters and passes at the height of the height at the glacial lake "Blaah", a fascinating place to spend a night at the lake, the road itself which can only be reached by car, recommended for driver who considers himself a trained driver, you should go to Mira carefully the road is very convoluted and landscape huge and may divert attention easily .
