We were driven down into the mine as the lift was out of action, but that added to the surprise of the tunnel opening out into the grand cavern. With soft lighting and music the 120 foot high rooms were amazing. In the clean cut walls the patterns were like giant sand pictures or the rings of Saturn. There is a cafe, pool tables, ping pong or sun beds each in separate galleries. And loos! It's great to sit and chill down there in probably the largest enclosed space you will ever experience. Well worth the drive to get there.

The actual Slanic Salt mine is an excellent place for any patient with chronic respiratory problems like asthma, COPD and many others... The constant ambient temperature around 12 C and virtually no air currents provide excellent conditions for pulmonary rehabilitation. Slanic is a colorful village in the sub-Carpathian hills. Landscape is impressive during the whole year - the green rock, the blue salty lakes, the beautiful slopes with poplar trees and rare pine trees, the thorny Hippophae rhamnoides bushes that turn orange in autumn [huge amounts of C vitamin in the fruits of hippophae!] are a real delight for anybody. Also amazing is the mixture of traditional old farmhouses with their archaic rural flavor and the new villas of inner-city people that evade during weekend to Slanic. Worth a whole weekend of salt mine or a mini-vacation in summer to enjoy trekking and sunbath of "floating" in salt-saturated lakes.

An amazing place where you can enjoy bathing, the soothing sun, the healthy benefits of salty eater and the perfectly good for your skin and blood flow, the mneral mud of Slanic. Thanks to its salty water, this lake is perfect for those who are just now learning to swim. Moreover, it has a rich history, its literaly mountain made out of salt date back from thousands of years and the aer smells like the sea, so good for your lungs and breathing. You can get a beautiful, natural tan at Slanic while maintsining a healthy skin thanks to the minerals in the water. There is always a wooden float on the lake for those who enjoy tanning while enjoyng the watery view. I will not give it five ponts because there is an unpleasentness here, if the salty water gets in your eys, they feel like they burn, if you accidentsly swallow some water you can get drowned, because it will immediately block your breathing circuits of your body and your nose. So be very careful when you go swimming to Slanic. And thsnkfuly, there is always music, people, restaurants, motels, hotels and turistic atractions you will definetly love.

We took a day trip to the Unirea Salt Mine on a Saturday afternoon. It was a 2-hour drive outside the city and a nice, new experience. Adult tickets were 18 RON each and we waited about 10-minutes for a 15-passenger van to drive us down into the mine. The driving time through the tunnel was about 5 minutes and once you arrive to the mining area, you can wander on your own. The lighting in the mine is very dark and as with most Romanian sites, there is limited educational information posted. The temperature in the mine is a steady 12 degrees celsius year-round, so I'd be sure to bundle up. Inside the mine, they have a small cafe with drinks, restrooms, ping pong tables, pool tables, a kids area and benches to read/relax with free wifi. The mine is massive and impressive, but I was still ready to leave after twenty minutes. A tip - Be sure to ask what time the van departs for the top. We missed our ride by a minute and had to wait 30 minutes before leaving. Not a big deal for 2 adults, but it may be helpful to know for people with kids.

210 meters under. All year round 13 degrees Celsius inside the mine. (Not opened on Mondays!)Inside, there's a huge space, it might have 50 meters height. Impressive looks. The salty air is healthy, no doubt about that. But that is pretty much all.Boring place, with not much things to do. There could be a lot of activities, but it seems like they don't really want to invest in this place.Disgusting toilets. Broken everything. Weird lighting. This was the first time for me in a salt mine, so I cannot be sure, but from what I have seen in pictures, this might be one of the worse ones around in this country. I will try to check out the other ones as well.

Tallest salt mine in Europe. We visited in june when we were heading home from Ramnicu Valcea. Too tall, too big for me, made me feel, and realise how little we are in the world. Good that they have a playground for kids but i think they could be more organised

This is not an active salt mine. All mining is complete. It is now a place to go to see a former salt mine. Or a place to go to bring your kids with respiratory problems to play soccer or hang out on swing sets. Its a bit off the beaten track. Not sorry I've seen it but difficult to recommend because you just wander around for 15 minutes and move on.

What a great place to visit, can't believe that this is not the most popular place to visit from Bucharest, we did the tour with a company called Travel Maker Bucharest. Our guide name was Serban, this place is quite simply amazing, it's just a shame that you cannot, buy souvenirs, but if you are going anywhere near Bucharest, put this on your to do list.

It is probably the most fascinating, unique and impressive place I have ever visited. An amazing experience that I'll never forget. It's like a real live sci-fi film.

Visited here on a Sunday when it was quite busy. The lift is out of action so you are driven from the entrance by minibus to another entrance a mile or so away where the bus drives straight into the mine. Once there it is amazing. You enter on the floor of the mine and it has a ceiling around 50 metres high in the caverns which used to be the salt. The only drawback is the time taken to get back as you have to wait for a minibus. We didn't wait long but there was a big queue building up.Even so, if you are in the area, unmissable!

I was there many times with the friends, family, and now with my husband. It's intresting and unique. The mine is 207 m deep. You can see there old mine tools, and salt statues. The air is healthy and relaxing.

The Slanic salt mines are a tourist attraction because of the rarity of the place (for those who have never worked in a mine!). The ceiling height and the peculiarity of the space are spectacular. On Sundays there is a large queue to enter (we were waiting an hour and a half) and you have to pay 4 RON for the parking and 16 RON to enter. Closed on Mondays. You should go dressed warmly because the temperature inside is constantly of 12°C.

Visiting the salt mine Unirea in a late afternoon was a good choice, it was a nice experience I am so happy to share with you. Everybody can show you the way to there, as you are already in Slanic. Going down in the mine - approximately 210 meters was an adventure, cause the elevators seemed very old :-) and we were pretty scared. But once you go down, you forget everything, cause what you see there will take your breath away. This place was amazing. The rooms were very large and about 50-60 meters high. You are surrounded by salt, it is amazing how people created this place. There are 14 rooms in total - there is a soccer field, a children playground, tennis tables, coffee place, a special room with beds and lcd tv - the microclimate from here is very good and helpful for persons with breathing diseases, especially asthma, so the doctors recommend it.The salt mine is electric illuminated and also one of the Romanian mobile network works in the mine.It is a beautiful place. It was very busy when we visited, lots of groups of children and tourists from different countries. Be sure to get warm clothes, cause the average temperature is down about 12 Celsius degrees. The entry fee is 14 lei for 1 adult (less then 3.50 Euros ) and also 6 lei for taking photos, but we were probably the only ones paying for this :-) nobody was checking anything. If you are close, be sure not to miss this place.
