Mount Cardada is reached after a short tram ride from opposite the train station in Locarno. Thereafter you take the cable cars to the top. Once there you can enjoy the Alpine mountain views. Short walk to the suspension bridge gives you a clear view of the forest 100's of meters below and miles across. Walk through the forest and you reach the summit. In summer You can view the preparation of the ski slopes just abovre the town central. 360° views of the town far below are breathtaking. Walk back down and enjoy the little pieces of history scattered all along. This includes a centuries old church built into the mountainside. Cobble stone pathways lead you into history. Excellent family outing.

This is one of my favourite spots in the region. You have one of the best views in the World, start enjoying it from the cable car. You can do tons of walks and hikes, there are many local restaurants, nice for skiing in Winter (especially for kids).

This is a must do day out if you're staying in the area, if you have a 50% travel card then use it here for a reduction. The views and walks are amazing, the cafes are typical attraction cafes and if you can survive food until you're back in town then I would do so.

Take the cable-car to Cardada, and then continue to hike up the mountain to Cimetta, and if you really love to hike, climb to the Cross of Cima della Trosa! Amazing!

We spent a relaxing half day visiting Cardada and Cimetta, with a stopover at Sacromonte e Santuario Madonna on the way down. Take note that you first have to buy a ticket to go on the furniciular up to Sacromonte e Santuario Madonna (CHF5.40 -25% discount for Half Pass holders). We then bought tickets to transfer on to the cable car to Cardada. We paid CHF14 (50% discount on Half Pass). Check if you can buy a ticket all the way to Cimetta. I think I asked for ticket to Cardada, so I ended up buying another ticket on the chair lift from Cardada to Cimetta (CHF5 after discount). We actually spent most of the morning at Cimetta, watching the paragliders and enjoying the views. It was a cloudy day up at Cimetta so we didn't have a clear view of the Lake but it was still enjoyable. We had lunch at Ristorante Albergo Colomanichhio - great view and excellent food. They have a smoker for meats and the smoked meat with risotto is absolutely wonderful!

Easy way to get to the top. Fantastic views. Restaurants and facilities at all levels. Fun park areas for kids as well, along with good hiking.

As we travel with small children and no stroller, we look for places with easy walking trails that the kids can walk. This place is perfect. There are unique things for the kids to interact with while there. In addition to the observation deck, they have two little playgrounds, a cool two people pulley system swing and other places for kids to climb on and explore. You can stroll the trail to several restaurants and explore along the way. My kids had fun walking the tight ropes and posing with the mini totem poles. There are benches along the way to sit and take in the views. There are also bathrooms once you get off the funicular, which is always a plus when traveling with children. Don't forget your camera.

The ride up from Orselina is great. The modern cable car is efficient and a fun way to travel up. The views at the top are stunning and it's worth walking along to the overhanging platform looking out over Lake Maggiore. We continued on up on the Cimetta chairlift, which was excellent. We got a great deal through SBB RailAway, which included our rail journey to Locarno, the Madonna del Sasso funicular, the Cardada cable car and the Cimetta chairlift. Fantastic value for a great day out.

Starting from opposite the main railway station a tracked railway takes you up to a point above the Madonna del Sasso. It stops at the convent for those wishing to visit.Just above the station is the start point for the cable car up Cardada, running approximately half hourly. The area around the top has an attractive restaurant staffed by excellent staff. There is also a play area under construction which looks as though it will appeal to adults as well as children. Follow the path further round and you will find a "walk of faith". A path supported by steel cables stretches out over the valley giving a wonderful view of the surrounding mountains (clearly identified on a chart) and also down into the valley and the town of Locarno.Walking back past the restaurant brings you to a children's play area representing a North American Indian camp.Beyond this is a chairlift to the summit (and another restaurant). The actual summit affords terrific views of Lake Maggiore and the islands, also of hang-gliders traversing below. All in all a cheapish excursion with a surprise round every corner, highly recommended.

Highly recommend to visit when u visited Lake Maggiore and Locarno! You will see the funicular sign on the way to pier from Lucarno train station. Just go all the way up by funicular, cable car and chair lift and you will see the stunning panoramic view of Lake Maggiore and Locarno!

We went to Cardada for one night stay at mountain house, it was amazing. It was snow all around when we woke up at early hours in the morning in April 2014. The host were amazing, they helped us getting back to the cable car in the afternoon. I would love to go again there sometime..
