I thought this was a great place to just sit and watch the world go by. Very relaxing, lots of good food and drink nearby. Must be magic at Christmas too.

We visited Tallinn on a day trip from Helsinki and the old town square. It's a large spacious area surrounded by shops and restaurants. We visited mid February and it was a damp drizzly day. Probably not the best time of year to visit, but hey, it was still enjoyable, and we could only imagine how great the square would be in the summer or during the christmas markets. As such we are looking forward to visiting during one of those periods.

I love the place in summernights and at Christmas. Visiting townhall square in Christmas makes you feel like youre walking in a fairytale.

As you see the sights along the way from the main entrance to the Old Town, you burst onto the Raekoja Plats- a huge square- full of restaurants, cafes, shops, info centre (not exactly on the square but a right and short left turn away), Wonderful place to hang around- Food is overpriced at the restaurants but then you pay for the locale not the food, I guess. You can go to Toompea from here up the hill or wander around a bit. Music and buskers and people in medieval costumes. The old town can be a little confusing so use this place as a marker.

A very quaint town square. Similar to some other european cities but in the old town at Tallinn it seems to fit in really well. A few cafe's and things around the outside. Grab a drink at one of the tables and watch the world go by!

A market place since the Middle Ages, nowadays the Town Hall Square is the heart of the social life of the city and plays an important role for locals and tourists: during summertime it is filled with outdoor cafes, in winter it becomes a magical Christmas market and, moreover, it is a venue for open air concerts, fairs and Medieval festivals.

Whether you are making your way up to Toompea Hill or on your way back take time to explore this area Featured by the Town Hall. Here you will experience many vendors selling there wares or souvenirs. Cafes, Restaurants, Shops and more surround this area. With no shortage of any. Roasted almonds here too. We enjoyed a meal from times of aulde at Olde Hansa. (When was the last time you had Boar served on clay pottery.)

awesome old town square with a great market and bars close by... you could easily spend a day walking off the square checking out the bars and the old laneways any time of the year...

Use the central place in the old town to keep your bearings. The town centre is central meeting point for tours and people.

In winter the town hall square is a lovely place to spend an hour or two. Despite most of the stalls selling exactly the same thing it has a really lovely atmosphere especially if you're lucky enough to get snow. The best time to see the markets is around 4pm as it starts to go dark and the lights give everything a warming glow.

Oh how I loved spending the holidays there. It was my go-to for something warm and lovely -- from Vana Tallinn glogg to hand-knitted scarves, hot blood sausage to gingerbread and trinkets, it's a wonderful center-point to Old Town. Granted, the restaurants around the square are a bit of a turn-off with sales-folk doing their darnedest to lure you in (and I absolutely gave in a few times, though I mostly can't complain) but it's still the best little center...
