We had a great morning here until it was time to go. The Castle was very well presented and reasonably priced. The toilets facilities were good and the whole getting around the castle was easily followed. The English brochure explaining parts of the castle was very useful. The children (10 & 12) enjoyed seeing a 'whole' castle instead of just ruins. I noticed there was wheelchair access. We spent about 90 minutes wandering around the castle without a guide.Very interesting history on the restoration, but not a lot about the castle. As I said, a great morning until it was time to go and we had found our iPhone had been stolen sometime while having lunch in the restaurant here. Apart from this, we had a nice simple lunch at the restaurant where meals and snacks were reasonably priced.

This is a beautiful castle in a lovely part of France with incredible views. It's certainly worth seeing. However, there are a number of things that we found disappointing, and this kept it from being a truly memorable experience. Part of the issue was that we had recently visited the Chateau Chillon outside Montreux, which was truly amazing, so this castle probably suffered a bit from the comparison. The negatives really all stem from the story of the restoration, which was carried out about a century ago by Kaiser Wilhelm. It's pretty clear that preservation and historical authenticity weren't at the top of the priority list. So you end up with an experience that feels a bit artificial and overdone. The audio guide heavily reflects this, and most of it is focused on the Kaiser and his decoration ideas. It has little to say about the actual history of the castle and area. One other thing to note is that we visited in December, which I imagine is likely not a heavily popular time to visit. The parking lot was largely empty and was huge, so I'm guessing it gets very busy. Even with the relatively few other tourists around us, the rooms are small and easily get very loud, so we often felt cramped - I would guess that this might be an even more uncomfortable experience during the high season.Overall, I'd go here to see a pretty castle and get some great views. If you're interested in history, you'll probably be slightly disappointed.

We visited this castle during the christmas markets time in Alsace so naturally it was crowded here as well. I liked the guided tour, lasted about an hour and was very insightful and full of interesting facts. The castle is nice, has somw furnished rooms and is worth a visit if you are around.

Restored and magnificent. Even though it was shrouded in fog this just added to the magic. I have now visited this castle several times and it does not disappoint. The castle apartments have been restored and are magnificent. We were there when they were prepared for an Alsacien Christmas _ wonderful!Restored gun tower commanding spectacular views!

Beautifully renovated, restored and furnished strategic castle dating from the Middle Ages (mentioned for the first time in the 12th century). We took the tour without the audio but that's a pity! We didn't feel like walking back to pick them up! So remember to ask for them where you buy your entrance tickets. The restaurant, located very close to where you first enter the site after parking, serves very simple food but the ham and salad was excellent. You can eat in the older section in one part of the star shaped bastion next to the book store/library, or in a modern enclosed picnic area. Despite the cloud level we had bright sunshine after lunch and took interesting pictures from the highest points in the castle which overlooked the clouds to the view of hilltops opposite. Well worth seeing.

We arrived just few minutes before it opens and there were only few visitors but after we finished our visit there where about 200 people queuing at the ticket booth. It is amazing to see the efforts and investment made by Germany to reconstruct the castle at the beginning of the previous century. This is really a must-see attraction in Alsace.

If you love going to some of the great castles in Europe put this one on your list. It is loaded with history of the area and of castles in general. It is worth going up to the castle just for seeing the view. Great view on a clear day. It costs 8 Euro to get in so it is not free but worth the cost. Its an enjoyable drive up to the site as well.

The best Castle we have ever seen on our trips, although we were already here about 16 years ago with the Belgian Volvo Club, it still was fascinating. We took enough time to made pictures and look in every corner something who was worthwhile to do. The location on a high mountain was breath taking and the restoration was documented very well even on this moment they are busy to restore another part of the Castle! There was period furniture and a nice little restaurant onsite. Allow for at...piece of history and photo opportunity. We would not have missed this second time for anything, brilliant. But if we can the visitors a tip, when you are coming by car, do not let anything on view in the car, it is also signposted not to do so!And be sure to were good shoes, this because you will have to do about 300 steps during your visit.A prepared person is worth two.

Had an extra day in the area and had heard this was a worthwhile sight to visit. It certainly was. The location on a high mountain was breathtaking and the restoration was documented very well- on English! The self guiding tour was well laid out. There was period furniture and a nice little restaurant onsite. Allow for at least an hour- well worth it!

A big mirakle on the top of the hill. A gorgeous historical castle. There are many rooms and from the roof you can see kms away.

We really loved this castle, there was a lot to see and it was very picturesque. They have a lot of information regarding what has been restored and before/after pictures. The nicest parts was getting there early and seeing the castle at such a quiet time, we were there on a Monday morning arriving at 10am. It does seem to get busier as the day goes on, the only downside to going early was that the mist was at the level just below the castle so we couldn't see the view that others talked about. Definitely a must see though!

This castle is worth visiting just for the wonderful views over the countryside. Whilst an information panel to tell you which village is which would be helpful, it does not detract from the great vista looking eastwards. It was a little misty in the far distance when we were there and on a clear day it must be even more dramatic. We were able to park quite close to the entrance, but did notice that the parking facility stretches for a long way and it could mean a lengthy walk on a busy day. The castle visit itself was really interesting and took around an hour and a half. There is a cafe for coffee and lunches. We would recommend a visit here if you are in the area.
