Another nice old church with a ton of history and art. The stained glass is from 15th century. Much of the glass is left survived WWII. I would make another visit to this site. You only need about 1 hour for a visit.

The Church of Saint Maclou,is in a beautiful setting, and well worth the visit. Although smallish [75 by 180 feet long] the church has a richness in its decoration with perforated gables. The pointed tracery looked like flickering flames to me and typical of the flamboyant French style.

St. Maclou's church is a beauty of Rouen. It is a great example of Flamboyant Gothic style of the 15th century, the predecessor of Renaissance. Magnificent exterior with elaborate statues and solemn interior of the church with elegant organ is a perfect example of amazing Gothic style. I still cannot comprehend in full how all these gorgeous Gothic cathedrals were built in the Middle Ages: it really makes you think that there is no limit to what people can do. The Church is very close to the Rouen Cathedral and is surrounded with lovely timber houses that make Rouen so special. It is such a pity that St.Maclou'S Church was a victim of the allied bombing in 1944; the good thing is that it was beautifully restored.

Loved both the outside and the inside of this beautiful church - so much detail. Also look up and notice those windows which are the original windows and those which were replaced after the war - you will see the big difference!

This is the "other" great Gothic cathedral in Rouen. Monet did not paint 30-plus versions of it, but it is definitely worth a visit. It is mere steps away from the large cathedral. The exterior is almost like a wedding cake. The interior is pretty plain, thanks primarily to the Religious Wars and especially the Reformation; the latter stripped the interior bare. Then, there was the Allied bombing during World War II. It was built during a period that the Black Plague swept through Europe and, contrasted with that horror, its delicate, clearly Romantic brilliance, stands in stark and splendid contrast to a horrible time.

Having seen the exterior of St. Maclou’s I now know what they mean by the “flamboyant” style of late Gothic architecture that emerged as the Renaissance began to take hold. Wow! This stunningly beautiful building has so much intricate detail on its façade that it makes you wonder how they ever found the time and money to build it. Well worth a visit. Our tour group was on a tight schedule when we arrived here, and we wouldn’t have been able to go inside even it was open at that time (which I suspect it wasn’t). I’d like to return some time and have a look at the interior.Photographers alert: There are some very photogenic old corbelled and half-timbered buildings adjacent to the church.

This church is like a Wedding Cake on the outside and for me very disappointing on the inside. I was told that it's plainess on the inside is because it was thought at the time that people would feel closer to God if there not so many decorations, this could be true but equally it could be false!!

The New Jersey Choral Society from Ridgewood, NJ, USA sang a concert here in July and it was magnificent. The Priest and staff were just wonderful to us. Wonderful location in a lovely, charming city. They love classical music.nt

Surely you will not have seen such a suspended cross ever in any church or cathedral - Great example of gothic architecture; one of 3 great cathedrals or abbeys in Rouen

The stairs to the organ loft are almost worth the visit by themselves. And hearing both tiny groups of instruments or magnificant organ-choral works in this space is marvelous. A gem of "flamboyant gothic" - tall and beatiful, but not as grand as the cathedral.

This church is small specially when compared to the cathedral of the abbey but it's still nice to visit. The exterior looks amazing, and since it's at a smaller scale, you can see details better. Check the opening times, I wanted to visit around 2pm and it was closed, I went back about 3 hours later and it was open and you could hear the organ being played.

It's a different scale than the cathedral but it's on the Rick Steves walking tour of Rouen so don't miss the beautiful little old church.

St. Maclou's is only open to the public on Saturday and Sunday, and my wife and I were only in Rouen for Tuesday to Thursday during a recent visit. Nevertheless, we were impressed by its white flamboyant Gothic exterior. It is a shame, though, that so many of the figures have been beheaded, probably by French Republicans after the Revolution.

This small parish church that literally sits in the shadow of the great Cathedral of Rouen was established in 1432. It was visited on a clear, blustery March day and was the highlight of my visit to Rouen. The 16th Century hand carved wooden door contains two panels with Biblical scenes. There is a large half circular, intricately carved stone atop the doors. The inside is small, warm, and inviting.....not cold and stark as many older churches feel. The warmth grows from the vibrant blues and reds of the stained glass windows. The entire church seems old, well loved, warm and airy. Natural light in the nave seems to add to this feeling of warmth. A must see for anyone who loved churches. The architecture has been termed as neoclassical gothic (whatever that means). To me, it is just a beautiful house of worship.
