Designed by Gustave Eiffel and construct by Maurice Koechlin between 1882 and 1884 the Viaduc du Garabit (opened in 1885) spans the the River Truyère near Ruynes-en-Margeride, Cantal, France. It is very close to the St-Flour in the mountainous region of the Massif Central region. The viaduc is 565 m (1,854 ft) in length and has a principal arch of 165 m (541 ft) span was constructed for the railway line between Marvejols and Neussargue and is still in use today. When it was constructed it was the highest in the world 120 metres (400 ft) above the River Truyère. It is illuminated at night and is situated between junctions 30 and 31 on the A75/E11.
