Worth visiting, restored, more things to see in one place! Stunning views from the castle top!We went there after our travel to Vardzia.

We were with a group and only stopped in Akhaltsikhe for 20 minutes. We raced around the castle like mad people and deeply regretted that we could not stay longer! I could have easily spent a couple of hours there. It was stunningly beautiful with a charming atmosphere. Other reviewers have complained that it is not faithfully restored in the original manner. For me, this was not an issue. Castles were remodelled over and over in their heyday and Rabati Castle's current incarnation is a thing of beauty. In fact, it helped me to better appreciate how the the other, crumbling castles we saw might have been at the height of their powers.

All the same, it was pretty cool to wander around and take in the place. Huge, and an adventure in its own right. Kids would love it!Getting there was quite a journey. We hired a private mini bus from Borjomi, which worked out fairly cheap between the 7 of us , and I would advise similar size groups to do the same.If you are in Borjomi for a while, definitely worth the trip.

After arriving in Kutaisi it took about e hours to get here by car. The way was a bit exhausting and depressing. When we arrived in Akhaltsikhe we were shocked. We had mot expected such a sight. The castle is high above the city and totally contradictory. The city is insignificant and dirty but the castle is amazing and in an extremely good condition. Inside there are different types of buildings. Everywhere you look you can see something wonderful. The area is rather huge. You can even find an archeological exhibition which is really very interesting as it involves a lot of different ages beginning with prehistoric time. Absolutely amazing! You can spend there 2 or 3 hours. The admission fee is vety cheap and no extra in the museum. The view is fantastic from the top of the castle. All in all when in Georgia you should visit this sight if you can.

This fortress was restored like a disneyland immitation (and lost UNESCO recognition), so it is nice and not necessarily real. You can enjoy it, if you pass in this area.

Rabati Fortress has been massively restored (in part they are still renovating) but the final result is amazing. Once entered into the walls, it seems to walk in a fairy tale. Rabati fortress comprises: Sargis Jakeli castle of 14th c., Fortress Church (late Middle Ages), Palace 18th century and the Church of Saint Marine (1865) with built-in relief works. Ivane Javakhishvili Samtskhe-Javakheti History Museum in 1972 moved to two buildings at the Rabati territory. Today, the Museum houses the significant part of the region’s cultural heritage. It preserves: manuscripts and old printed books (parchments dating to the 11th, 12th, 15th, and 17th cc.), photos, archaeological, numismatic, and ethnographic collections, rugs and carpets, ancient inscriptions cut on stone. Apart from two main buildings that display permanent exhibitions - the Castle that surrounds it, Administrative building, Mosque built in 1752, Ruins of a medresa (Islamic school) - belong to the Museum. Total size of the Museums open air territory is 27.500 square meter. Fortress Rabati is a symbol of coexistence, just because hosts within its walls churches, mosque and madrasa, but also Hebrew inscriptions. In fact, an international festival of peace and tolerance is hosted every year

"Brand new" castle and fortress built on ancient bases. Very spectacular with oriental elements, but I think, it have never existed in its present form. Entrance fee is more than acceptable (5 GEL for adults).

Rabati castle is a nice option to spend an evening and enjoy the awesome views. It makes a nice family trip. The renovation may not haven been done according to historical standards, but kids love to wander around. Latest entry of the castle at 8 PM but you can wander thereafter, so be in time. You can have a nice coffee at the hotel. The hotel may be a nice option to spend the night, but you have to carry your luggage all the way up from the entrance.

Lots of renovation that looks jarringly ahitorical. Nothing is explained. No brochures in English. An unfortunately typical example of how Georgia doesn't quite get it with tourism. Rabati castle is best seen at night from afar -- it is dramatically lit up!Walking around some of the older neighborhoods is really fascinating.

Rabati fortress is a great place in Akhaltsikhe. I would say, it's the only place you must visit within the city. There is a restaurant inside the fortress. The price is 5 lari if I remember correct. From the walls you can see the city.

Went with a group of Peace Corps volunteers and found it very nice. There are two routes you can take to visit this beautiful place, the free route or the "pay to play" route. We went the free route. Basically you can see everything in the Castle for free except for the mosque and church. From what I've heard the mosque and church are well worth the money but we found the whole thing so amazing and we were definitely on a budget.

In fact, anything interesting and worthy of attention.Looks like a newly built, no sense of history ... I did not like.

That's it - fortress had been rebuilt so much that you can hardly see original parts. So it's by far not the historical artefact, looks much more like a movie stage. On other hand, it is nicely decorated, beautifully landscaped inside and great for parties or fashion showsWorth 1-1,5 hr visit

It appears you have to have a guide to go up into the museum up in the fortress. The mosque is non-functioning so no need to remove shoes. Museum has an excellently curated display starting with thousands of years BC up to the 20th century. Many, many steps if that matters to you
