We arrived at Cachtice Castle just ahead of an approaching thunderstorm. We parked our hire car in the car park a few minutes climb from the Castle itself. (small charge for parking applies)Not a long climb to the Castle entrance.Castle is mostly ruined, but the views from it are well worth the visit. If you are in the vicinity, this is well worth coming to see.

This place was on my list a long time so when I have heard that the castle is repaired and it is opened we just took car and went to see it. I have to say that the people who were repairing the castle made a lot of work specially in the static concept. They opened the catacombs and made it save for visitors. What is funny that they did not put on the webpages that you have to pay entrance which means people did not take the money with them or they just looked at the castle from outside and went away. It was nice to meet the author of Elisabeth Bathory curricullum vitae. Mr. Stiavnicky. I have bought a book about Cachtice which is very nice. The way to the castle is not suitable for wheelchairs, strollers and people with the walking disability. There is no shop for drinks and snack, so take it with you! At least water. If you are good in sport you can walk 2,5 km from the village otherwise park your car for one euro for whole day on the parking place under the castle, it is half shorter way to get to the castle.Btw Elisabeth Bathory did not bath in the blood and was not in the wall burried alive...read the book

The castle is on a hill so take into account that you'll have to walk 5-10 minutes up a hill from the parking spot and the castle itself doesn't have paved routes either so taking a stroller along is not a good idea. Entry costs 2,50 euro, you get a multilingual booklet about the castle and it's former mistress and you visit it on your own (these are ruins, not a museum with a tour guide and a strictly defined walking route). Definitely a fun place to go with your kids (they can run around freely and the place is not too big so they won't get bored with the long stay). I recommend a visit even if you're not really into castles - the view is really breathtaking!

Alzbeta Bathory made this castle famous, rather due to her mass killing of young girls and bathing in their blood, as the story said. She was let to die here in rock dungeon.Ruins now, nice view.Recommending.

The castle looks good but it is temporary closed for reconstruction until summer 2014. You can still have nice walk and kids will be happy. There is really nice and easy geocache close to the castle.

A long climb to see this spooky Castle....The Blood Countess Elisabeth is said to have killed over 600 young women to bath in their blood to stay young. The views are stunning. The workers ask you to leave but we had Peter of Best Slovakia Tours and we stayed and heard the gory tale.

klasická zrúcanina hradu so známou povesťou. Dobre zrekonštruované, autom sa dá dostať prakticky až k zrúcanine. Odporúčam si to však radšej vyšliapať, cesta je dobrá a rýchlo ste pri hrade. pekné výhľady na všetky strany.
