My girlfriend and me got the number 29 bus up to the zoo thinking we will spend a good couple of hours there and find it interesting and enjoyable. It was a very grey day and I am sure this in part did not help. From my perspective, I find zoos to be bit cruel generally in principle but I gave this a go with an open mind. We went into the zoo and thought it was very quiet. Infact, we did not see another soul for the half an hour we were there. The first part of the zoo had very few animals. Cages and displays were empty and these themselves looked old and tacky. Perhaps they remove animals for the winter? We got to the tiger enclosure and from here my heart sank and brought back to me why I don't agree with zoos. The poor thing was pacing up and down which is a sign of stress and the environment it was in was disturbing. Small, muddy and completely no effort made to make this magnificent creature feel at home. Moving further along, more empty displays, no seals etc. We then came to the European Wolves. Again, my heart sank. One wolf at the front of the cage with a toy in its mouth just pacing up and down in a space no more than 10 feet. Clearly a very stressed animal. The enclosure was to be fair fairly large as a whole but it seemed to be housing 4 wolves. I felt for all of them. The environment again not seemingly fit to make the animals at home. Even the camel enclosure looked a mess and the small space for their shelter was used to house at least four of them. From the point of the wolves, we decided to leave. We could not bear to see anymore given the poor conditions we believe were occurring here. Empty park (perhaps fair enough given the time of year) and stressed animals. Made me feel very guilty and upset.

What a wonderful zoo!So many animals, a really lovely layout and enjoyable walk around the whole site. There were a couple in our party who found some of the route more difficult than others due to slopes and steep steps but we all managed to get around. Having never been to a zoo in another country before (we are English) we were unsure what to expect from here but it was a very reasonably priced, excellent day out and entertained a family of all ages.

We had very enjoyable day in this Zoo. It is great to have a long walk because it is on big area. Many choices for kids to play around, also possible to come with bike.

Really nice zoo, nice location up on a hill. Besides it is very huge and extremely cheap!Definitely recommended.

Really nice Zoo. Much better than we expected. A great value for money day out. We used the bus and it was very easy. Animals looked in really good condition & all of the cages were clean. We didn't include the Dino park.

Kosice zoo has nice surrounding of nature and forest. Good selection of animals. If you want to see everything be prepared to walk a lot. Zoo is big. There are many spots where you can rest and buy refreshment. We had nice afternoon out with the family.

Nice but simple setting. For 3 euro, you can have a nice walk and enjoy the animals. Lions, bears, a few monkeys but nothing really exotic . Lots of vegetarian animals like goats. Did not check the Dino park. Accessible by bus but better with car.

Had a great day at this zoo with two small children (3 and 5). Lots of animals ready to see and quite concentrated in the middle and several playgrounds. Plenty of snacks and fast-food available but also a good restaurant were we had a tasty, freshly prepared meal without waiting too long. Menu was mostly translated into English and there was another handy playground visible from the terrace to keep the children occupied. The only tricky bit was finding things (including restaurant) as the zoo is full of meandering paths and the map is not given with the tickets but displayed from time to time along the paths. The optional add-on, dinopark, accessed from inside the zoo, is also worth a visit and the summer bobsled, visible from the zoo carpark, looked like fun but the children were too exhausted to try it!

With two kids we know almost all kids attractions in Slovakia and I must say that Kosice ZOO is one of the best. Big range of animals, really cheap tickets, nice countryside area. One thing I was disappointed was food. Only thing you could get was fast food fries, burgers and low quality food. You better pack your lunch with you.

This zoo is wonderful. I have been to better zoos such as the Belgrade Zoo, but for 3 Euro(or 1.50 for seniors and children) it is unbeatable. The animals get huge pens. The biggest I have ever seen. The wolves especially have an amazing place to live. It is a shame to see any animals locked up but since they have to be, this is the best they can get. The zoo covers a large expanse and feels like a park, so it is a great place to spend a day walking around. It is built into the hills so be prepared for a leg workout. Don't expect exotic animals and you will enjoy. They do have some bears, a tiger, and two lions. Upon entering from the parking lot walk on the left road. The road on the right is for employees.

The zoo is quite big but it's more like a park than zoo. Could not see many types of animals as expected. However, it's suitable to bring kids along while the weather is good.

I'm glad that we went to the zoo.It was very suprising that there was no review of the zoo on TripAdvisor before. As of writing this I am the first one giving review about it. I read on Wikipedia that this was the largest zoo in Slovakia and the third largest one in all over Europe.Originally we went to Kosice for an all-day jazz festival. As we arrived it turned out to be started only at the evening so we had a whole day to spend in Kosice. We checked around and found out that there's a zoo in the nearby. The zoo is outside of the city, located somewhere in the hills. A city bus termines there so it was easy to get there. Don't expect anything astonishing or exotic species. The cool part of the zoo is the environment. Animals are kept in very good conditions, most of them have plenty of space. The hills are beautiful. Walking there felt like hiking in mountains. It was a great time spent there.
