Beautiful part of world. Known to locals but world wide travel community has not discover this beautiful national park yet. There are unspoiled natural places.

Too bad we didn't have more time to do more tracks. This place is taken from fairy tales movies. It's huge and you cannot do even 1/8 from the amount of tracks.Since we only had a day to spend we choose to do the Socha Bela track on the green line, cut to the yellow and back in the red and green. It took us 6 hours, wonderful views, not too difficult, good weather, a bit climbing on wooden and iron leathers.Tracks are well marked and great views.Do not miss these amazing trails!!On the track we took there are no refreshment points so we took 3 large bottles of water, sandwiches and some small snacks and stopped few times on the road.

We planned on spending 2 days here but only ended up doing one. We hiked Sucha Bela, which starts right by the entrance to Autocamp Podlesok, and it only took us an hour and a half. We hike at a very good pace, but I wish we had more time to take pictures. It wasn't extremely busy, but there were people almost always right behind us so we felt like we needed to keep moving through the ladders. I'd say 2 hours, maybe a little more, is a safe time to budget. Since we were done with that much quicker than expected, we decided to go all the way to Tomasovsky Vyhlad. We ate lunch at the lookout, then took the blue trail all the way back through the Hornad Valley and walked back to our hotel (Ranc u Trapera). The blue trail through the valley had some awesome parts with grates and chains attached to the sides, but overall was very long (3 hours) and boring in parts. This took us about 9 hours from the time we left the hotel to the time we returned. I don't know that I would recommend the route we took, but it worked for us. It was difficult to decide on Sucha Bela or Velky Sokol, but when we bought a map (highly recommend, get the 1:25,000 VKU map) the guy suggested Sucha Bela as it was right by our hotel and took less time. I wouldn't have minded doing another of the more dramatic hikes the next day, but it made sense for us to head to the Tatras. Would have chosen either Velky Sokol or Piecky, and would have liked to have seen the Zavojovy waterfall as well.

Slovensky Raj or Paradise National Park of Slovakia is really large and beautiful. My route is like this: starting from the gate in Hrabusice, then going to Sucha Bela gorge (blue trail), then Red - Yellow - Green trail to Tomasovsky vyhlad, then Yellow trail to Cingov and taking bus back to Spisska Nova Ves (last buses: 6:35 at Cingov and 9:10 pm if u walk a little bit further to Spisska Nova Ves direction). The total time was 7 hours, and please minus 30' because I didnt have a map and got lost several times... It is not difficult to conquer this route in a good weather day. Along the way there are many streams from which you can take water to drink and refresh. However there is no WC except for the one at the point Kav... something I dont remember. Therefore "solve your problems" at the beginning of the park. Also, not many trash bins so bring some bags with you. On the way through Sucha Bela gorge, you only have to go along the stream and in summer it is more comfortable and enjoyable to walk straight into the stream. Therefore I suggest you to wear sporty sandals or some kinds of shoes that are water-proof of easy to dry. Be careful with the logs as they are slippery and easy to roll over. You might be scared by the steel stairs, but dont worry as those are the easiest path of the whole trip. In summer there are many school trips here, so if you dont want to wait 20 minutes to climb on the damn long ladders, please depart early. However, as I started at 12pm, I reached the Tomasovsky aroud sunset and it was really nice :) A bit scary though for the way back as it will get dark soon. When you look on the map, also pay attention to the arrow signs, as the trail you want to take maybe is one-way trail. Oh and prepare full battery for your camera. You will need it :)

We did the Sucha Bela with one child and 2 teens. Indeed it is an amazing place, and I agree with all great reviews. However, the estimates we got for timing and distances were not accurate. Going up the green route of Sucha Bela took us 3 and half hours, almost twice the estimate of 2 hours (according to the guy at the info). On the other hand going down by bike (semi paved road) was much less than 10 km estimate of the guy at the bike rental said.

This park is beautiful, but you need a car to get to each of the three entrances. I was there in July 2014, and didn't have a car, so was relying on the local buses. I was staying in Cingov, so needed to catch a bus to the main village of Spisska Nova Ves and then from there another bus to whichever entrance I needed to go. There are only a few busses which run each day, and it was hard to coincide my busses from my hotel in Cingov, to Spisska Nova Ves, and then onto another bus to which ever park entrance I needed to go to. Bus travel times for each leg are from 30 mins to 45 mins. In the end I ended up cutting my trip short as I found it too hard without a car. The park is beautiful, and one day I will return when I have a car!

Wonderful place to relax. We did Sucha Bela, part of Prielom Hornadu and Maly Kysel. It was fun and we are not big fans of hiking at all. Beatiful country. The way how trails go through water and up the ladder is amazing. Highly recommend to experience this lovely place. We stayed only 1,5 day.

we did one of the slovak paradice most popular trails, the "sucha bela" trail.the "official" time is 3-4 hours. it took us about 5.5 hours.we get up early to avoid the rain. the trail goes up the canyon and its only one way. going down is not posible!! going down is much easyer trail and its a nice walk through forests & fields.the trail is not realy suitable for young kids (under 10) and for people with fear of heights.we climbed the rocky canyon along the stream, the start is fairly easy with a lot of fallen trees that block the way and narrow wooden foot bridges. as we climb up the trail gets steeper and more wild. there are hiking aids such as narrow metal ledders and chains nailed into the rocks, and wooden board bridges that cross the stream all the way up.and nature is all around you!! sounds (and somtime a glimpse) of birds, a lizard or a little forest mouse that cross youre way, and flowers everywhere (we came in spring time)there are many more trails in the raj. choose one and start walking...dont forget to take drinking water and a snack with you!

We spent two days hiking in Slovak Paradise (Slovenský raj), and we would love to spend more time exploring this wonderful national park area. We tried the two most popular routes for tourists, the Suchá Belá and Tomášovský trails. The Suchá Belá trail goes up through rocky canyons along a mountain stream, and it climbs up alongside waterfalls along the way. There are multiple hiking aids such as metal ladders secured to the canyon walls next to waterfalls, chains bolted into the rocks along narrow ledges for hand-holds, and wooden slatted foot bridges above and across the creek. It isn't for those who are afraid of heights, but we found it to be a unique and very fun experience! (Note: most sections of bridges do not have railings, but we felt secure once we got used to it.) It's a one-way only route, and the path back down is very different, all easy to walk on normal paths! This was absolutely one of the highlights of our hiking trips in Slovakia, and we understand why it is a famous destination here. The Tomášovský trail was much easier, along hard-packed dirt, stone, or asphalt paths. There were many beautiful wildflowers and scenic views along the way, and at the top there are spectacular panoramic views from the rock ledges. We'd highly recommend either of these hikes, and from what we've read, there are many other great trails in Slovak Paradise as well.

We took a 3 hour hike in Slovak Paradise National Park in late April and it was wonderful! It was simply beautiful. The trails were well maintained, the waterfalls were clean enough to drink and the scenery was breathtaking. There are wooden and metal walkways and ladders built into the cliffs to walk on; you would never see such things in the States. I wish we had more time to explore this wonderful park.
