Though renovated and reinforced between the 1960s and 80s, the underground still offers an occasional glimpse of the sandstone pathways and wells that coil under the city, culminating with the massive wooden waterwheel by the water tower.

you'll get a helmet and go to underground. few kilometres of corridors are ready for your adventure. you will see a bit of history inside.

Tour guide has a good understanding of english, very knowledgable, it was very interesting and it was very nice in general.

Great experience going through the old underground. Not for the claustrophobic. We had a couple in the group that couldn't take it a few minutes into the trip and we all had to go back to the start because of them. Tour was with a Czech speaking English, so somewhat difficult to understand.

Not much to the tour. I would not do this again. It was 50 minutes of walking around many of the same passageways. The underground portion pot the brewery tour was more interesting.

A tour through underground corridors and low ceiling tunnels, guided in foreign languages, full of handicraft artifacts. It is worth visiting.

The tour lasts more than an hour. You can see archeological finds from many eras (the Middle ages and on), the wells, the weapons, some drawings and plans, etc. and meanwhile a guide reveals the history of Plzeň. There are very low ceilings in the tunnels, so you get a hard hat not to injure yourself. Very tall people have to duck their heads anyway. The corridors are very narrow so when listening to a guide you often cannot see what he/she is talking about because you cannot see the display window. The groups should be smaller but the capacity of the museum staff probably does not allow it.

We enjoyed a very full day in Plzen, staying two nights in the hotel across from the brewery. After walking around the main square and side streets, we toured the underground on an English language tour. It was a warm July day so the cool underground was refreshing. We thought it would be more rough, grimy and unfinished but it is very nicely presented and bright in most parts -- a good combination of old and new or restored. One person on the tour immediately left because they felt confined but it was a lot less claustrophobic than I had imagined. If you're a bit tall, you may need to hunch over at different points but nothing too severe. The stone and brick floor can be wet at times so shoes with good traction are recommended although there were people wearing flip flops as well. It was helpful to have gotten to know the streets above first so when on the tour you had a point of reference regarding what was above you. Just watch your step and enjoy! We toured the brewery later that same day and had dinner at the on-site brewery restaurant. It was a perfect Plzen day and a good jumping off point for our two weeks in the Czech Republic! Plzen is an easy hour drive on a nice highway from the Prague airport even after 24 hours of traveling to get there.

The underground city is very interesting when you think about the effort and planning that went into a city underground. We didn't want to wait for the English tour so used the audio guide with the German tour. Our guide was able to answer questions and keep us ahead of the audio so we kept up. We found the tunnels unusual and could imagine Czech citizens moving about underneath. I would spend time above ground getting to know the streets around the square so that when underground I would be able to picture exactly where I was in relation to the city.

We visited the Plzen Brewery Museum, Historic Underground and Pilsner Urquell brewery on the same day. I was really impressed with all 3 attractions. The historical underground tour was really interesting - I learnt a lot about Plzen's history. Our tour guide spoke very good English but was noticeably VERY nervous (maybe she was quite new to the job?) which made me feel a little uncomfortable. All in all a great tour and for a very low price!

When we were there they had no tour in english, so we had an audioguide, so we weren't able to ask questions, and the audioguide talked more than the guide so we were always at the back and sort of alone, dispite that, the tour was very intresting, and I'm glad we did it. My boyfriend is very tall and had to go hunched most of the tour, so prepare for that if you are tall

Our guide was the most delightful, knowledgeable person, totally willing to answer all of our stupid questions about Czech history. The underground tour is very extensive and exhaustive. Does get a little claustrophobic when you think about the city above you, but the historical artifacts and tidbits were totally distracting. Loved it.

Our guide spoke beautiful English and was able to answer questions. I was afraid at first because I can become claustrophobic, but the tunnels are well-lit and filled with artifacts. I really enjoyed the entire experience.

The Underground tour guide was excellent, she conducted the tour in 3 languages and was very knowledgeable..

Historical underground is worth to see, because there is actually "another city" below Plzen and you can easily imagine how people lived in the past. We took "English guided tour" but unfortunately our guide did not speak English, so we were getting audio guides.
