Norway has a countless places worth visiting for its charm. Trolltunga is one of them. You can get there from Tyssedal, climbing countless stairs and then having few hours long flat hardangervidda plateu until you reach trolltunga. Can be done in one day, though it requires some strenght. You can also sleep in a shelter located right next to trolltunga. Visit Odda tourist center for more information. The view is worth it.

I spent 4 months backpacking Europe, 31 countries and over a 150 cities. It is simple. This was the best thing I saw, and I saw everything. Go do the hike for yourself. You will not regret, and if you do than I have no advice for you. You are doing life wrong.

My boyfriend and I (both in our early 20's) visited Norway in early September of 2014. Hiking Trolltunga was the no-contest highlight of our trip.We stayed the night in Røldal, and timed the drive to Odda so that we started hiking right at 6am. The entire hike took us about 9 hours, including an hour at Trolltunga to take pictures and eat lunch. We’re both experienced hikers/backpackers and in shape. The first km up the old funicular track is rough, but breathtaking. After that, it’s by no means an easy trail, but has tons of places to take the occasional breather and enjoy the epic scenery. The trail was a bit muddy and slick in early September so bring good hiking boots. I was cringing watching people in old sneakers taking jumping pictures on Trolltunga. We also packed lots of water, snacks, and extra layers in our backpacks. I ended up shedding most of my layers during the hiking portions, but they were necessities whenever we stopped for a break. Despite the beautiful weather, it did get very cold.It was little crowded at Trolltunga, but only when we were leaving after our lunch break. I would highly recommend starting as early as possible. If we repeated this hike, I would actually want to start around 5am instead of 6am. It was worrying seeing people without overnight camping gear starting the hike as we were descending.Bringing a good camera is completely worth the extra weight in your bag. Every km of this hike provides some of the most incredible scenery in the world. Take your time to stop and enjoy the landscape - hoping that I’ll have the chance to visit Trolltunga again!

It is a 1 or 2 days hike. I'd rather say 2 day comfortable. I did it once in 1 day from Bergen but in a bit of a hurry... It's really nice to have a tent with you and spend the night on the top! The first 1-1,5 hour of the trip is the hardest, it is pretty steep but after the is an easy hike. I'd rather say 7-8 hours instead of 6 what is on ut.no. Totally worth it, amazing trip!

Frankly speaking, the hike is quite challenging. It's 22k total. 4h20 to get there and 3h30 back. One of us was suffering on the ascent, other one on the descent, but it was an unforgettable trip. Spectacular views on the way and the amazing feel to be on Trolltunga itself. Also, the tongue is not right below the lake, so it's not as scary as it might seem.

Wear good hiking boots and bring more water than you think you might need. I cannot recommend good footwear enough. We decided to do the hike after reading many reviews and seeing the photos from this hike. We went early September and the weather was perfect around 10C with no rain. The first and last km are pure agony especially the last when your knees hate you. But aside from the first/last km this is one of the most beautiful and epic hikes I have ever been on. The views from the top of the fjord are worth it. Trollstunga is just the icing on the hike. It does not seem that high when you are there even though we saw helicopters flying below us.

The first part is by far the worst but after 30-45 minutes of going up the stairs, it gets easier. There are two or three other somewhat steep climbs but not as bad as the first part. The views are great throughout most of the hike but Trolltunga itself is definitely the highlight.

If you can only visit 5 place in Norway I would put this one in the top 2! It is just a magical place to visit, but it is a demanding trip. It will take you at least an 8 hour round-trip to enjoy this place thoroughly.

This hike took us 10 hours through various terrains and we took a few wrong turns but we made it! It isnt the easiest of hikes, so remember to take a lot of food for the day! (which we were remiss in doing) and plenty of water. We also left it a bit late, leaving at 11am. BUT the scenery is some of the best I have seen in the whole world. Next time we do this (and we will!) the best option would be to take a sleeping bag and stay the night overlooking the gorgeous fjord. Definately a highlight of our Norwegian trip.

My sister and I made the journey to Trolltunga in late August. We had read reviews and felt we were very prepared. We're both in our 20s, healthy and active. We packed a few small snacks, two large bottles of water, wore hiking shoes and packed a few light layers in our backpacks. We began the hike at about 10:30 in the morning. After the few 2 kilometers, we were already winded and stopped to catch our breath. The first leg of the hike is extremely steep and difficult, and we were shocked because so many of the reviews mention that children and older adults have completed this hike with relative ease. We stopped a local and asked if the trail levels out, and the woman assured us that the first bit is the only difficult part. We continued on and eventually made it to the lookout point at Trolltunga. It was 4:30 p.m. at this point and along the way, the weather changed dramatically. It was late August, so we did not anticipate the freezing hail and high speed winds we encountered at several points. By the time we made it to the lookout, we were shaking cold and completely fatigued. We had not made preparations to spend the night, so we had no choice but to keep moving. We reached the parking lot at about 9:30 p.m., just as it was getting dark. We could barely move our legs by the time we reached the bottom. The shuttle was no longer running, and we had no way back to our car, which was parked 6 km down the hill (the top parking lot fills up quickly). An incredibly kind couple drove us back to our car, thankfully, and we were able to depart. The views along the hike to Trolltunga are not accurately captured in photographs-- they are breathtaking and unlike anything I've ever seen before. I am so happy I was able to experience the beauty of Trolltunga, but my sister and I really put ourselves in danger by not packing proper clothing, not leaving enough time to make the trip and not bringing flashlights. Unless you are an avid hiker, you need to really consider if this hike is for you. I would recommend training a bit beforehand, packing plenty of food and water and warm layers and making sure you give yourself A LOT of time to make this trek. It was really, really difficult.

The initial ascent from the car park is intense but well worth it. You need to have sufficient water and snacks etc and we felt its best to spread over 2 days and camp if you can. we camped up near the look out (7km mark which had running water available had the best view over water but we camped up near 11km) which meant we had twice the opportunity to get a few fun pics. There were very few ppl up there in the evening so we even made a few nudies out on the ledge. Lots of fun. It's 20km + in one day if you do it return which unless your really fit and energised can take away from experience and limit your time at top for good weather.

Not an easy hike, but you can do it. My 10 year old hiked for 12 hours. He did not give up. Start early and take flashlights if you are slow. August was a good time to hike, not hot , not cold, just perfect.

One of my best memory from my trip in Norway. The hike is pretty hard (around 13km and 1000m positive altitude one way), especially the beginning but it definitely worth it. I camp on the top and I have to admit that it wasn't a quiet night as it was very (very!) windy. But you'll never regret when you'll drink your coffee in front of the beautiful landscape on the morning !

The hike to Trolltunga took us about 9 hours total, and we were with a pretty large group (10 people) and a few were unexperienced. The hike itself was pretty hard for me (also because this was my first hike ever) but it was totally worth it! The views are just amazing. The path itself it pretty well marked with a red T on a rock every now and then. Good shoes are very important, and I would advise to bring hiking shoes. Also bring enough food and water, as you'll be hiking for a long time! If you run out of water, you can refill your bottles at the waterfalls, as the water is clean enough to drink it.
