The scenery is so amazingly beautiful!! I had the feeling of an almost untrue reality, like we were in a postcard or so. Crystal clear sky and sea. The air is so fresh you will hear your body sings with every breath. Fantastic to tour around the island and go the far tip of it, where "land ends" as they called it. Fun to try the whale meat for the first time in my life.Seems that there is no public transportation and you do need car to move around. Few population it seems, but we found everything we need, at a very expensive price - even when we arrived from the expensive Sweden.A total extraordinary experience for someone coming from Asia like me :-)

Fishing, farming and tourism are the primary activities of the Lofoten Islands, with heavy emphasis on the first. Cod is abundant and everywhere we passed racks of drying cod and cod heads, the aroma pungent and very fishy. The scenery is absolutely stunning and even though the weather was cloudy and dull when we visited, the reflections from the red and yellow buildings in the water created such a moody atmosphere. Really a great visit.

Lofoten, archipelago in the north of Norway (lying within the Arctic Circle) is very exciting tourist destination.Small villages off the beaten track, old fishermen's cabins ("rorbuer") that have been restored and turned into modern accommodation for travellers, midnight sun, the amazing colors of the sky-everything is just amazing! But you have to save the money for this trip, because Norway is the expensive country.

Lofoten Island is unheard of for someone living in the opposite part of the world in Hong Kong like me. Only until I saw a discount air ticket to Oslo on Travelzoo website, and started to research the travel information about the country and discover Lofoten did I decide to travel to Norway. Despite the air ticket was a good deal USD1,500 Finnair round trip, knowing that Norway is an expenisve country made me very hesitated, thanks to the beautiful pictures of Lofoten helped me make my decision. After 13 hr of international flight + 1 hr flight from Oslo to Bodo + 3 hr ferry from Bodo + hrs of waiting in between the vehicles arriving Svolvaer in the evening, no car pick up was arranged as some of the post said that the staff in the ferry could help book a taxi unfortunately the day me and my friend arrived, no taxi was available. When we started to panick as most of the ferry passengers were gone leaving us in the deserted pier, a local came to our help, he made a number of phone calls after 20 minutes we got on a taxi that he booked for us. After this small problem, the whole of the 4 day trip was a bliss. The perfect reflection of the sky in the sea water was a miracle, the friendly faces, the pure air, the tranquil beaches and the lovely rorbuer made up this unforgettable trip for me.

Sadly we only had a few hours in the Lofoten Islands on a tour off the Hurtigruten ship.It was late afternoon/early evening; the light was amazing. It is easy to see why so many artists choose to live and work here. The water was so still, and the light so perfect, that photographs of the beautiful wooden houses and their reflections in the water are stunning. The houses, villages, art galleries, people are all lovely. The 'Untitled' sculpture by Dan Graham by the sea's edge made of three concave mirrors reflecting the mountains and the sea has to be seen to be believed. We were so captivated that we hope to come back for a much longer stay.

Amazing. Full of old fishermans houses, and tools to dry fish. Best view is from ship. On every beach you may find the shells.

Lofoten Islands are something special. We spent 4 days there, travelling and hiking on the Islands and you will hardly find a beautiful place like this in Europe. It´s just a pitty that is really touristic now.

It is the most beautiful place I have visited so far. The combination of sea, sky, mountains and the local Rorbus, picture something so memorable that one would like to go back again as soon one leaves. An excellent place for hiking, cycling or driving to each and every corner of all the islands.

Much of this was for scenery and even wet it looks good. If you wear the correct clothing you can enjoy the Norwegian landscape and the history and the towns such as Leknes and Gradval.

Words fail me! The scenery is breathtaking. The fact that people live on the brink here with a standard of living that is the envy of anyone who sees it.

I just returned from bicycling for a week in the Lofoten Islands, and it was a once in a lifetime experience. The scenery, of course, is just spectacular, and the people so warm, helpful, and friendly. I knew it could be rainy, windy, and cold, and we were prepared as we had all those conditions! It added to the adventure! I have so many wonderful memories: the young boy my husband and I talked to as he biked by (I am always amazed that everyone speaks English), the young lady who recommended a great restaurant that turned out to be our favorite, the other bicyclists from all over the world who shared experiences with us, and the friendly owners of the places where we stayed. We were never far from a great place to stop, and I remember one day when we had been in the rain for several hours. We came upon a rorbu center with an excellent cafe where we had hot coffee and waffles! Just delicious! The scenery is so hard to describe, and the color of the water so beautiful. My husband went swimming, but I just watched him! I would like to thank everyone who helped me plan this wonderful trip! The information centers are so helpful, and I would like to thank Mariell Hagen in particular for helping me with all the bicycle information! I could not have planned this trip without her help, and she was always so cheerful and quick to reply to my many emails. Thank you!
