The Aluksne nature museum is a hidden gem. From the outside it looks like a common-or-garden municipal natural history museum. But inside is something different...This museum of bird life, agates and minerals is a testimony to one man's life work: a collection of enthusiasm and passion. Its highlight is Europe's largest collection of fluorescent minerals: stones that look like ordinary chunks of rock in natural light but which glitter and glow in the most fantastical manner under ultra violet light. Sounds boring? I'm no museum geek but this was an absolute stunner - breathtaking and one of the best museum display I've seen.If you're in Aluksne you should definitely see this!!

Well, this one is definitely must see! Museum is in New Castle building, it’s created and run by a local man who is very nice guide! The collections are beautiful, I loved the cockles and shellfish collection, enjoyed the microscope (the tiny things can be so gorgeous!) and birds singing. :) Rocks and minerals are great! But, the one thing what is worth for to come to Aluksne is Fluorescent minerals from Latvia, U.S., Canada, Romania, Mexico and other countries! In daylight they look usually stones (still very beautiful) but invisible ultraviolet light brings in all colours of the rainbow glow, its spectacular!Just can’t miss it!

Был приятно удивлен этим небольшим замком в английском стиле, расположенном на берегу красивого озера.В замке размещен музей и недавно была закончена реконструкция.
