This cathedral is well worth a visit. The outside grounds are lovely. If you are a European church enthusiast, you will also find the inside worth the visit. The conflict between the Norman king and the bishop of the Palermo cathedral is an interesting story, as is the smaller, but equally interesting, cathedral built in Cefalo.

In the heart of the old town just off Free to all. We visited in February on a three day stay in the town. We had not sought this building out but came across it by chance. Sitting in lovely gardens we thought it was closed, as it was covered in banners with protestors sitting precariously on the roof. We passed under the police tape and we were jeered at when we entered. Inside it was impressive, however under all the bad atmosphere, we missed the bomb hole we had intended to seek out!

A must. One of the most interesting cathedrals you will ever see. Just from looking on the outside you can just imagine it's rich history, but don't stop there. Go inside and see one of Palermo's most magnificent structures.

This is a wonderful cathedral inside and out and I would highly recommend a visit. We visited the tombs and also lit a candle. We went with my sisters family and the teens enjoyed it more than the young ones.

Enjoyed the outside of the cathedral more than the inside. It is quite stately and majestic looking.

Wonderful outside looking like a royal palace, so we think it is a royal church. It is several minutes on foot close to the King's palace.

What a gorgeous cathedral. I would definitely recommend a visit. The highlights for me included the silver tomb holding Saint Rosalie's ashes, the gold line on the ground outlining which zodiac sign is current (where a spot of sunlight shines on the area depending on where the sun sits - very clever), and the grave for the modern-day Saint. Due to it being free, definitely worth a visit.

The Cathedral dominates the piazza, The exterior incorporates Baroque, Islamic, Catalan Gothic and Norman styles of architecture. The south portico is especially fine Catalan Gothic dating to the second half of the fifteenth century. The interior is massive and mostly neo-classical and plain.

It was Sunday and they were holding a mess in there. I was raised catholic but now am an atheist BTW, but nonetheless I enjoyed the sombre atmosphere.

Everytime I go to one of the city in Europe, I always spend at least 15 - 30 mins to check out their Catherdal. Palermo Cathedral is one of the big one. It's nice and simple inside. In Palermo, you will find many churches. Some are smaller but each its very own characteristic. If youl like architectural and historical building, you should not miss it, spend your Little time to look inside, it will amaze you.

This is a magnificent edifice, beautifully framed and pleasant with palm trees. We admired the multi-styles resulting from long centuries of building and alterations, from its founding in the late 1100s.The overall impression of the interior is whiteness and restful. The long central nave lined with columns, each with a statue, is tremendous. There are many decorative features, frescoes and statuary. The altar is highly impressive.The array of light-filled domes is wonderful. The fine floor contains numerous images, both geometrical and religious.

What a sensational and ancient structure filled with marble inlay and crazy beautiful art. Light a candle and think of someone you love.

Very pretty. It was a rainy day and we decided to attend mass at the cathedral. It was absolutely gorgeous. The cathedral itself is very imposing and beautiful.
