I have visited Gavi castle many times during my life as my father was a Prisoner of War there for 4 years during the Second World War (he first took me there as a teenager, which was very traumatic for him). It held 180 officers and 60 other ranked POW's, including David Stirling who founded the SAS. The castle is shut on Mondays. Like other visitors, we found the rapid Italian hard to follow. We managed to explain our connection and the curator could not have been more helpful, and I am currently compiling some information on the Prisoners of War in English to leave at the Castle for future English speaking visitors, and will urge them to have even a short brochure in English. It is well worth a visit, as there were secret passages and the fort has commanding views over the small town of Gavi and the surrounding area.

It was great to be able to visit this fort whilst we were on a recent visit to Gavi. When we got there though the door was closed and all signage was in Italian. Buzzing the buzzer resulted in us speaking to someone who could only speak Italian. Luckily we saw some people in the grounds who explained that entry was every hour at 30 minutes past so we then waited and joined them. Entry was a very cheap 2 Euro! The tour was in Italian and all info boards were also in Italian which was a let down but at least we managed to see some of the fort. Much of it was also still marked off so you really only explore 10% of it.

Cozy like home. Nice owner, good food, sweet rooms, special collections, ect. We like it very much! Unfortunately our schedule is rush, or will stay one more day!

This castle in the town of Gavi is amazing! Such a hidden gem and well worth the visit while exploring Cortese wine country.

Siamo passati casualmente da Gavi, ci siamo fermati nel parcheggio davanti alle scuole e da lì il forte é veramente imponente, poi giretto per la cittadina. Entriamo per un caffé : all'antico caffé del Moro. Metti un piede nel locale e torni indietro di 50 anni forse, bellissimi arredi originali.Come anche lo é l'esposizione delle bottiglie e amari in vendita. Siamo stati attirati dagli amaretti che la ragazza stava confezionando nelle tipiche confezioni. E dal retro sbuca una signora tutta-energie ci raccomanda la visita al Forte, ci invita anche a osservare la facciata della Chiesa poco distante. Ci fa da guida e ci accompagna, sopra l'ingresso c'é un ultima cena molto interessante, Gesú al centro e sotto i suoi piedi la testa del Diavolo. Vi consigliamo la visita a Gavi e un caffé dal Moro.

lo abbiamo visto solo dall'esterno in quanto chiuso, era domenica mattina! la strada di accesso al forte era disastrata dall'alluvione, sara' per la prossima volta, speriamo che sistemino la strada e che lo aprano, non deve essere male.

Попасть в замок не удалось, был выходной. Но даже снаружи - впечатляет. Камни, истершиеся от времени, до состояния гладкой гальки, чувствуется история. Думаю, внутри еще интереснее.

Una bellissima roccaforte che domina il paese. Non abbiamo potuto visitarla all'interno perche' c'e' stata l'alluvione e c'erano pericoli di frane. Salvate quello splendido monumento e rendetelo accessibile. E' incredibile come tesori cosi' belli siano nascosti al grande pubblico. LItalia e' meravigliosa, siamo andati a Gavi perche' ho trovato una Tenuta dove passare l'anniversario di fidanzamento e poi fare shopping e ci siamo ritrovati ai piedi di questa meraviglia costruita da Federico II. Spero di poterla visitare la prossima volta!

Находится на возвышенности над городком Гави. Оттуда открывается потрясающий вид на Гави и окрестности. Будьте осторожно, если едите туда на машине - очень узкая дорога, порой прямо над обрывом.

Очень заинтересованы посетить эту крепость,но,к сожалению,сильно ограничены часы работы!Интересная история,связанная со 2-й мировой войной-в крепости содержались пленные и администратор гостиницы,в которой мы останавливались рассказала,что у них был постоялец из Британии,который участвовал в освобождении крепости,так вот недавно этот дедушка вернулся,чтобы посетить места своего военного прошлого!

Fantastico !!! è bellissimo la sera illuminato dalle luci artificiali, ma ancora più bello è se avete la fortuna di trovarvi a guardarlo una sera di plenilunio. All'interno vi è un museo ed una pinacoteca. Durante l'anno vi sono ospitati spettacoli anche in costume.

Ho messo 5 pallini perché è il mio monumento. Ho passato l'infanzia a fantasticare sulla vita di questi soldati che sono vissuti nel momento in cui si costruiva la cultura europea. Il castello è impressionante. Purtroppo è visitabile solo la parte settecentesca, mentre la più interessante struttura millenaria non è accessibile. Un'altra sconfitta della gestione del patrimonio storico italiano

La visita al forte ne vale decisamente la pena. Peccato che non tutto il forte è visitabile. 10 e lode alla guida che oltre essere molto preparata è riuscita a stimolare la curiosità di tutta la comitiva.
