Lago di Braies is purely gorgeous and stunning! We were lucky to enjoy the breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding mountains as well as the peaceful serenity during mid. Oct 2014, when it was less crowded. In addition, if you'd like to experience the best of its beauty, try to walk some of the paths around the lake. If you don't drive, take bus 442 from Dobbiaco main bus station, and you can reach S. Vito Oberhaus in about 20 mins, where you can easily walk uphill via national park forest trail to the lake in about 35 mins, or during summer time till end Sep, the hourly-run bus can take you all the way to the lake!

A fantastic lake and views.I would recommend to use a footpath; It takes about 1.5 hours to walk around a lake. There's a restaurant and souvenirs shop on the shore. Parking is available just next to the lake.

There is a story which goes with this Lago, and having read the story I could see why it came about, and how it could still mean something. The trek around the Lago is inspiring and beautiful and I would dearly love to go again. Someday. The legend clearly has me.

Braies is absolutely beautiful, no matter how the weather is outside. It was easy to hike around (though people with strollers seemed to have trouble!), and the views are just breathtaking.

Not an insider tip judging by the hordes of people visiting. Having said that, the scenery is magnificent. The walk around the lake is highly recommended and so are the many walks you can take starting from the lake. We ate at the grand old hotel on the lake front, which was ok, but not great.

With the sun shining brightly, there are few more beautiful alpine lakes in the world. This is a very popular small mountain lake worth a couple hours of your time. There is a 3 euro fee to park in one of several lots. Restrooms are at one of the lots (pay to play) The large hotel at the lake was not on our list to see so I cant really comment on it except to say it looked to be a 3 or 4 star facility. There is a wide path that goes around half of the lake on the west side with a restroom at the open picnic area at the end of the path. You can continue around the lake on the east side but the path is less developed with several long steep stairways and narrow paths that hug the mountain side. I saw several families with baby strollers having less than a great time traveling this portion. There are beautiful wooden boats for rent as well if you choose to row your lady love around the sapphire blue waters. Lastly, there are a couple of eating options near the hotel if you work up a thirst or want to nosh something after your hike.

Me and my husband were so lucky we got the chance to visit this lake on our honeymoon! This lake is outstanding. The whole location is just fabulous! I wouldn't have imagined nature more beautiful than this. We spent 5 hours just walking by the lake.. Would visit again, if we had the chance.

Very beautiful lake. With the exception of no glacier it reminded me of Lake Louise. We had a very enjoyable walk around the entire lake, took us about 1.5 hours. We were there mid September so there were not alot of people around, a complaint of a few people on Tripadvisor. There is a bit of a climb for about a 1/4 of the walk but nothing that was to difficult.

I have visited this place twice and I can simply say that it is wonderful. Beautiful scenery and pleasant walks around the lake makes you feel part of nature. Also hired a boat on the lake and it was very relaxing. An ideal place for hikers and those who like to be in touch with nature. There is also a hotel at the place for those who want to stay more.

This review rates the lake itself and not the hotel or cafe which leave a lot be to desired. Nestled in a corner of the Dolomites near the Austrian border is a tiny emerald green lake, surrounded by mountains favored by climbers as part of the Alta Via routes. There is a 5 euro charge to park here which is refundable if you eat at the hotel (we did not because it did not look very appetizing). Instead we walked around the entire lake which took about an hour and a half. It was a partly cloudy day which meant that the reflections in the water were mirror images of the surroundings -- very photogenic. While most of the walk is on flat ground, there is one steep section that switches back and forth. On a weekend it can be very crowded with people trying to pass each other on the narrow path. There is a boathouse where you can rent a rowboat. When you have finished your walk, drive back towards the main road and stop at any of the trattorias in the tiny villages for a typical South Tyrolese meal.

We stopped to Lago di Braies by chance and we found it one amongst the nicest spot in Dolomites. Water is green, Blu, emerald, a bright sky and all mountains around this lake which can be toured in a 1 hour walk. It is possible to rent a small wooden boat, 10€ for half an hour. The only default: there s a 5€ parking fee in the three parking area at 500m maximum from this pearl whose sight is up to North America landscape

As you drive up you have no option but to pay the €5 car park fee or after 14:00 its €3. Then its a short stroll to the Lake. the Lake is beautiful surrounded by the mountains. However the hotel looks almost ghostly...really needs some Tyrol Flowers or something!Walking to the right is flat , pleasant with the odd place to stop. Its also buggy friendly....you do need to turn round through as you can't walk all the way with a buggy .Walking to the left is not so smooth. It starts off easy then the path gets a bit harder and then you hit the steps......a fair few.The views are fantastic the water about 10deg < september> . Its a lovely way to spend half a day.We took our own food and drink and an ice cream was €2.

Beautiful place for a day out and/or for a picnic! definitely worth going as well to the little baita a bit further up, they offer some very good, genuine and typical dishes! it's also worth having a boat trip on the lake!! 5€ to park the car and another 50cents for the toilet at the car park (did not quite like that)! still a lovely place!! the bar and the hotel right in front of the lake look a bit like tourists traps, so i would recommend you take you bring your own food or you go to the baita!! Beautiful!
