Still not discovered for lots of tourists, is a beautiful medieval city crusted on top of a mountain with access only by a long bridge.Worth much spend an afternoon for nice photos.

My family and I were touring with Miles & Miles Tour Company from Rome to Florence. We chose to stop at Civita di Bagnoregio along the way, and when all was said and done, it was quite possibly the best place we stopped in Italy. Our family enjoyed the beauty, atmosphere, and people of this small town. After a few days in Rome, it was a quiet respite from the hustle and bustle of the city, and it truly reminded you of the ideas you have in your head about the Italian countryside. It's definitely worth the hike up the large hill.

Civita di Bagnoregio is everything that Rick Steves says about "this stunning little gem". Just don't go on a holiday. We made the mistake of visiting on Nov. 1, All Souls Day. We were staying in Orvieto on a week-end and knew the buses didn't run to Bagnoregio on Sunday so planned on going on Saturday. Visitor information informed us that Saturday was a holiday, so no bus service. Our hotel, Hotel Virgilo, graciously arranged for a taxi to drive us. The only problem was the taxi driver would only wait 1 hour while we visited Civita, because he had plans with his family for the holiday. The taxi dropped us right at the entrance to the foot bridge. There are now toll booths and a charge of 3 Euro to walk to Civita. Because of the holiday the foot bridge was packed as well as the town. Mostly Italians enjoying their day off. We were able to walk through the village and church and back within the allotted hour. If we had wanted to eat lunch here this would not have been enough time. Allow at least 3 hours for this. Civita is worth seeing and even the expense of the taxi (70 Euro), but not if you want to avoid crowds.

I was amazed by the site and sights of this medieval town. Magic. Great place just to sit down, drink a glass of wine while you breath history. Amazing.I still miss the coffee ice cream I had in the square. A must go if you are in orvietto

We've been here twice now and enjoyed each visit just as much as the other.Your best off renting a car to get here, with a short and scenic drive from Orvieto. I'm not sure how the bus would work, but I didn't see any close stops. With your own car you can park just below the pedestrian bridge, making the walk easier (not that it's difficult, just hot in the summer). I would avoid parking up top, up up from the walkway (where many do) at the restaurant/bar. However, if you want great pictures, you can get some awesome shots from here with the higher height. In the hot sun, it's a bit of a sweaty hike, but well worth it for the pictures. The village itself is great, very quaint. Walking through all the winding streets only takes 20-30 minutes. But if you want to really soak up the ambiance, grab a coffee overlooking the cliffside and enjoy the atmosphere. Or stay for lunch. Food is good and if you want a quiet relaxing lunch, this is the place. It's pretty cheap overall to visit, worth it. You've already traveled this far, why fuss over a few euro?Go, enjoy the charming village, grab a coffee and then move on to the next great sight!

I was amazed by the unique site of this medieval town. The sounding area around the town has eroded away meaning that the town itself protrudes up above its surroundings into the clouds almost. Lovely walk up to it and only a small fee to enter. 5 euro i believe and this goes towards the conservation of this unique town.

This is one of my favourite places in Italy. We got here early morning and the city was covered in clouds. When the clouds cleared up, it was so beautiful to see. I loved how the city is perched on a hill; it was like the top of the hill was cut and a town was put on it. If you can avoid when the tour crowds come in. When the crowds come in, it can get quite busy and the restaurants fill up quickly, There is a cave or underground tunnels that you can go into for a couple of euros within the city. We were told this city is "endangered" as it may collapse.

Civita di Bagnoregio is beautiful. I especially liked Bagnoregio. The walk from Civita is steep so I recommend a pause or two to catch your breath. The view is remarkable and the town itself is lovely. Full of flowers. Pretty amazing place, which may have been my favorite in all of Italy. The drive from Orvieto is easy and scenic.

We were recommended to visit this place by our hotel and we couldn't thank them enough. We would never have found this as a place to visit by ourselves but when we got there it was mind blowing and one of the highlights of our holiday. The walk up to the town on the hill is quite steep but the views are worth it. It is very quaint and interesting to walk around and there are plenty of restaurants to visit after your walk. It is definitely a place we would recommend to visit and very cheap at only 1.5 euros per person.

We were driving from Orvieto to Rome and planned to stop here. It was a little confusing, but, I was able to find a parking space below the pedestrian bridge. We paid for parking and entrance to the hilltop village. The walk was fairly easy with only the last part being steep. I am 69 years old, overweight and not what one would call "in shape". However, this walk was not that challenging. As everyone else has said, the views are amazing Easy walk around town, took lots of pictures, ate gelato and returned to the car. The entire stop, from parking to retrieving the car was under an hour.

It feels other-worldly, underlined by the surrounding almost-lunar landscape of sharp ridged cream-coloured hills, ravaged by landslides, earthquakes, Time and weather. The walk over the bridge and up the very steep entrance is not for sissies (or those with vertigo) but worth it.This town will not be there in 100 years, unless some discovery is made of how to stop the land it sits on slipping away. The medieval church in the main square sits on top of earlier ruins of a Roman temple. Surrounding houses have windows that look out onto sky and empty space, where the rooms behind have slid down the hill over the centuries, following a devastating earthquake in the 19thC. Visit!!!! It's unique.

While staying a few days in Orvieto we decided to visit Civita di Bagnoregio. We caught a local bus near the funicular in Orvieto and were dropped of two or three ks. from the town. It is then a good walk till you actually see this ancient beautiful town sitting on it's hill top like a Island in the hills. It is absolutely stunning to view across the valley. You have to walk down a few steps to a lower track which takes you to an area where you purchase a ticket to cross the bridge then walk up to the entrance to the town. This is a non traffic place. This medieval town is about 3000 years old with a great history and is known by some as the dying village as the mountain it is sitting on is slowly eroding away. We spent half a day there and would have loved to be staying there a day or two, only a small town with a lovely old church , a few nice shops and eating places . It is another world walking the narrow streets admiring the old dwellings and the views from the edge of the town overlooking the unusual country side are lovely .A marvellous place for taking photos. Not many people live there now but the ones that do enjoy a very unique place of the world. A place to visit for sure if you are in that part of Italy, not the easiest to get to and involves a bit of walking but it is certainly worth it, hope to return and stay overnight. go there you will love it.
