Don't think it morbid. This cemetery is one of the most extraordinary places in Milan. Put it on your list as a must-see if you are interested in sculpture, history and some truly breathtaking architecture. Only a mile from the city center it is an easy walk. And don't forget your camera. Strolling through this place will make you feel intimate with the city, and it's outside, so no stuffy museum tour. And did I mention it's free?

Absolutely beautiful. Breathtaking art and sculpture from way back when people thought they could buy their way into heaven with this kind of thing. There's something very touching about the craft, faith and love put into these memorials by the loved ones of the deceased. You feel as though you're getting a glimpse into the stories of 100s of different families - the pathos is palpable. Fun fact: Evita was buried here for 20 years or so while Argentina was in political chaos.

I always asked myself whats interesting in visiting graveyards. Here you can find nice funerary tombstones and cappelle for milanese wealthiest families. If you look carefully many famous people are buried here.

i went there on a sunday just to waste a bit of time while i was waiting for the restaurant to open ' well i was stunned and i simply lost 4hours in there and i could have spent a full day there no problem i loved it And if any of you remember Land of the giants from the 60s you will really find it unbeleivable

Ok, I´ve seen many cemeteries and some of them was quite famous or well-known, but I´ve never seen cementery like this one. Exactly this is what I think when it´s said a necropolis. enormously huge tombs of many styles makes people feel some humility on the one hand, on the other hand to feel a wonderment. Moreover, there is very nice collection of tomb statues and some of them are really kind of artistry.

Not as nice as the Père Lachaise in Paris, but nice enough nonetheless. Some graves are beautiful with engraved scenes, and some sober, more modern.

Went there without any expectations and was really really impressed by what I saw.One of the best attractions in MilanPros:- Amazing monuments, tombstones and crypts. So many designs, each one is different and tells a different story. Every single one is a work of art.- Amazing cemetery design and atmosphere: very tranquil, with many trees and paths, not many people around.- It's FREECons:- nothing reallyTips: - when you go - try picking a day with good weather - don't go there when it's raining as you won't enjoy it as much

I never thought spending an afternoon at a cemetery would be interesting but I was proven wrong in this place. It would be advisable to go with a guide though. We saw people accompanied by guides. As we wandered around aimlessly, they knew where to go to to view historic tombs and learn the stories behind them.

Definetly worth a visit, such a big cemetry full, really full of different monuments and graves. Very nice to walk around, cultural experience. Impressive.

If you ever come to Milan, you have to see this place. It is so calm, peaceful and beautiful (and I know that might sound strange because we are actually talking about a cemetery). Every grave, every corner is a peace of art. It took me an hour and a half just to see one third of this amazing place and I was seriously amazed. No wonder Milan is an actual birth place of Dylan Dog :)

Once you visit Cimitero Monumentale, you will not want to leave and you will visit it over the next days, again...and again...and again...Each tomb is a piece of art, starting from around 1800. You will definately want to take a photo of every grave there. The sculptures are enormous and they all have a story to tell. Highlight: the crematorium where the doors of the cremation rooms are still black because of the smokes. Spend two days at the cemetary. One to explore the right side and one for the left. If it's rainy or foggy, you're lucky! It looks even more amazing. Personally, it's the only thing I want to visit again when I'll return in Milan. Stunning...
