atmospheric. You can take your own food and drink to the musical events held there. Otherwise it's a flat hike along the Mosel. Walk is easy from Neef caravan park or Neef itself., alongside vineyards. Great view of Bremm across the river. Good wildlife. Kids enjoy watching massive double barges navigating ultra tight river bend. You can swim in the river from the banks by the Klosterruine, or hire canoes or power boats in Ediger Eller,. Bike hire also all along the Mosel, including Bremm and Ediger Eller; plus paddle noard. Nice plave to visit if you go to the Volley ball championiships (usually July) on river bank Eller almost opposite petrol station.

Situated in the middle of the vineyards of the beautiful mosel valley this is an old monastery ruin.We were invited to a wedding there in summer and it was truly amazing. What you should bear in mind is that in spite of hot days the nights get really chilly. The whole region is brilliant if you want a holiday away from the city hassle and just enjoy nature, go swimming in the river or rent a bike.

Located amidst vineyards, the road towards this ruine is in fact a sandy path, but driving a car over it is possible. The majestic ruin was a former noble monastery of the Augustinian order, founded before 1137 and dedicated tot St Nicholas, Abbot Richard II von Springersbach completed the construction. "Sorores the insula beati Nicolai in Stuppa". In 1204 Knight Heinrich von Ulmen brings from his fourth crusade a valuble Greek shaped dubble cross containing Holy Cross splinters from the Hagia Sophia in Constantinople, this victory cross ends up via via in Stuben monastery and becomes their symbol. 1685 the Church construction is delipitated, demolished and a new Church is built, the present one. In 1794 during the French occupation the monastery is aborogated, its lands farmed out and the monastery is sold for demolition. From the long construction, facing East, are the walls preserved up to the west wall. Church Ruin, with three-sided locked choir, is 45 meters long and 10 meters wide. The North side has nine pointed Windows, the South side has six, the chorus has three, and the Western Wall (which was connected to the monastery wing) has one round window. At the inside are niches where confessionals stood, the cross corridor door is recognisable by the holes of beams and trusses. The North side Gallery had 3 axles, underneath those a burial chambre with three different doors and air vents holes. The flat wall pilasters, the high profile hooks in the choir and the pilaster stripes above the Gallery show the church once must have had a cross vault. Its furniture was sold and went to different churches and castles, such as: an altar of our Lady went to the parish church of St. Hilarius in Ediger-Eller. The six-sided seat of a wooden pulpit was used as a pulpit in the castle chapel of the family von Liebig in Kobern-Gondorf. Other furniture were: a 17th century stone altar depicting the crowning of Mary, a rare wrought iron pulpit from 1663 (moved in 1874 to Reichsburg Cochem castle chapel), a statue of St. Nicholas, Confessionals and crucifixes, chandeliers, monstrances and other sacred objects.
