Wow, it is a must. Visited the week-end of the 27/09/2014 for the beer fest. It was a dream come true. It was a pleasure to experience a crowed of 60000 and all well behave and no swearing , unlike the U K . The Germans do put on a great party. 19 rides and 262 stalls plus 6 HUKE beer tents, is a must for all ages. The soccer crowed of Hanover and Stuttgart were great, no problems. Enjoy , and I am told the Spring festival end of April is just great.Stay at the Holiday Inn, it was the best Holiday Inn I have visited. Thanks.Norman

another great place to visit in Stuttgart/Bad Cannstatt. Twice a year this place comes alive. April/May and September/October. Unlike other places in the world where you have to pay an entrance fee - this one is completely free ! Go and enjoy the atmosphere, the rides, fun and food. And when you have kids, go on Wednesday for kids day, all rides are one EURO and above.

10€ for 1L of Beer. Amazing music, great atmosphere, Lots of tents, the Giant wheel is a must to get an overall view of the fest. Food is cheap and the place is extremely accessible during the fest. Unlike Munich the Beer fest is held twice a year , Once during Spring and the other during Autumn. It start 1 week after the Munich fest and finishes 1 week after.

This is heaven on earth if you love beer, partys, sweets, rides, good food and friendly people. Been here 3 times at the oktoberfest in 2011, 2012 and 2014 and this area is a massive area next to the necar river near Stuttgart.

25 of us attended the Volksfest...their equivalent of Oktoberfest...Everyone says it it better than the one in Munich...lots of locals, not corporate, very friendly and sociable. Good live bands and dancing on tables...and plenty of rides outside...http://cannstatter-volksfest.de/en/landing-page/It's so much more fun than any british beer festival....we could learn a thing or two from them...Tips...plan ahead...see website above...You need to pick a tent...any tent...book a table...book some food...make sure you can get home...you can walk at a push...probably 90 mins back into town...

Went in Sept to the Volksfest. The tents are smaller than Munich but atmosphere just as good, great bands and beer with some amazing rides. There was a real local element / feel to the festival and the atmosphere was incredibly friendly. If travelling on a Saturday and you haven't booked (min in party needs to be 10) arrive early or you will queue. We came in after the football game with a few other 1000's of people and had to wait about an hour to get into a tent.

We were here for the Color Run! It was alright, but not too exciting. We may have missed it while flying by though.

Have been attending the Stuttgart beerfest since 2011 after going to Munich. The Stuttgart beerfest is a German beefest for Germans unlike Munich which extremely commercial and very expensive. Visitors are very welcome and they ship coach loads of locals in every year. Buy your table tickets in advance because the Volkfest is extremely popular. Local hotels can cost as little as £75 per pp night during the festival. Would really recommend a visit to this very authentic and enjoyable celebration.

Not worse than Oktoberfest. Perhaps a slightly smaller tents, but more space! Rides not less precisely. The same great atmosphere and a little less guests. At least in the first half of the day you need to go with children. Minus - no Weissbier)))

we spent both of our evenings in Stuttgart at Fruhlingsfest in the spring. we enjoy this much more than Munich not as many people and not as many fights. People are friendlier and just out for a good time. I like bands better also. And beer is cheaper and food. Have gone several times.

Neckar Park, in Bad Cannstatt, is the home of Volksfest, or Oktoberfest as we know it. It is also the site for Fruhlingsfest in the spring. These are the iconic German Oktoberfest events that Germany is famous for. The ones in Munich are too crowded with tourists so a lot of locals from Munich come to Stuttgart to enjoy these fests. There is plenty to do and see for everyone from kids to adults of all ages. The Germans know how to party and things rarely get out of hand. Think American carnival with beer tents. There are rides, games, vendors, food spots and huge beer tents. Definitely wear a dirndl or lederhosen as everyone does and you will standout if you don't. There is no fee to get into the park but the tents require tickets purchased in advance. You get 3 big beers and dinner with your ticket though.

This place was full of festivities when we visited it on one of the April Saturdays. The vast majority of the crowd in the late teens and early 20s, drinking beer and having fun. It was very friendly, non-hostile environment.

We managed to visit this park a few days before the end of the Spring Festival. There's a hell of a lot to do and see. A crazy mix of market style stalls, foodie places, huge rides and lots of beers in the middle including a revolving wine bar!Very much worth checking out if there's an event on. :)
