As a business group, we had a private tour. What a magical place this is. But if you visit in Fall, Winter or Spring -- bring your gloves! The castle is COLD, but worth every shiver! We had a wonderful tour guide who really helped us to understand the complicated history of royalty in Germany. You'll even see the crown jewels of Bavaria! Don't miss this if you're in the area.

I have made it a mission to try to see as many castles in Germany as I can (since I now live here). This is definitely an interesting and very beautiful one. I wouldn't put it at the top of the list because a lot of the castle was added in the last 200 years. In any case, still cool.

loved being able to see a castle during my vacation in 2000 as my penpal worked there. got to meet princess kira (R.I.P.) and Duchess Marie Cecile of Oldenburg and cook for them. hope to be back there so i can lay flowers at the grave of princess kira if at all possible and maybe meet duchess marie cecile again....

This castle looks so impressive as you approach it and the grounds are nice. We took a tour, but it was in German because we had missed the English tour. We could figure enough out so it was no big deal. The interiors are neat and and in the evening they were showing movies in the courtyard which we missed. there is a small eating area outside with food for sale. The views from the castle are amazing. We drove up as far as we could and parked in the parking lot and took a shuttle that dropped us off at the entrance.

The castle itself is definitely worth a look. While no one lived there and the building itself isn't very historical, it is a beautiful construction. However, for non-German speaking visitors the tour is a waste of money. They do offer English tours, but only a couple times a day. For the rest of the time you're handed a book to read during the German tour. It's pretty boring to be left to read a book for 45 minutes while following the tour group around. It didn't sound like we were getting the same information in the book as the guide was giving either. In the winter, the castle is not heated and they have you wear oversize house shoes over your shoes. It was a rather unpleasant experience to be freezing and tripping in slippery overshoes. Plus, the rooms you visit aren't very interesting to look at. Best skip the tour unless you can land an English one or you speak German. You can visit the chapels and the casemates without a tour and that's enough. The view is stunning and a free hike on the surrounding hills is definitely more satisfying.

The castle itself is awesome. It is said to best one of the best of Germany. I would say it is one of the best of the world. The guided tour is a must. The panorama outside of the castle is fantastic. I encourage everyone to stay until noon, and try to go walking by the forest trail from Hechingen. A little and enjoyable adventure

This was our first White Christmas, and to visit this beautiful castle on the hilltop as it was snowing was just magical. The countryside seemed to roll down the hill from the castle and open out in front of us, all blanketed in cotton wool. We were part of an Albatross Tour, so accessed the castle by coach, arriving there as the castle opened at 10:00 AM on Boxing Day 2014. The coach parked in the parking lot below the castle, and we were run up almost to the gate by mini-bus. There was a walk from the gate up a winding road for 5 minutes to the castle proper, then a guided tour for about 1/2 hour through this beautiful old building. The views from the top were wonderful.

The castle is so beautiful, new, very interesting construction and well taken care. It is still a private property, it means we only can visit one part of it, only in guided tours, which is very fast. It is also worthwhile because of the history.I wish I had more time to walk up the mountain.

Had a great time visiting this castle. Went with some friends that live in the area so they had lots of interesting perspectives to provide. Very pleased to find that an English tour of the castle was available. Guide wasn't particularly enthusiastic and didn't have a lot of passion in her presentation, as if she has just done the same speech too many times to really care anymore. The history and cultural tidbits she provided were very intriguing though. Definitely a nice place to go for a walk around and a nice view of the surroundings if nothing else. The tours were very punctual so if you do sign up for one make sure you are at the appointed meeting time nice and early!

Went during Christmas market. Lots of shuttle bus from parking lot. Well worth the €10. They had a few rooms open, lots of artifacts to see from the 1700's. about 20 vendors were there, a few selling food and drinks. Would recommend to others.

The castle is ok but a bit uninteresting. It is a modern rebuild by nostalgic family members of a destroyed older castle and was never lived in for any extended period of time. The tour of the inside only covers about 25% of the castle and there weren't any really interesting rooms. You see one small bedroom, one sitting room, one office, and a large hall. There was very little original furniture, art, decoration, etc... You couldn't get a feel for the lives that were lived there (because there weren't any). Go if you are nearby but it's not worth making a trip to see.

We didn't actually went into the castle (because we didn't have time), but we walked from our hotel to Zellerhorn. The route was steep and sometimes slippery, but well worth it. The view from up there is simply amazing. However, please note that we actually took 4 hours from our hotel to get back to our hotel back (including like 30 minutes at Zellerhorn). Once up there, there is no turning back!

We visited this castle during our summer vacation in Germany. We drove approx. for 1 hour from Stuttgart to the castle. It's such a pretty castle on the hill. You have to drove your way up to the parking lot where you can then hike up the hill or take a shuttle bus up the hill. We really enjoyed this castle because it has been beautifully maintained and it is not overcrowded with tourist like some of the other castles in the area.

I visited this castle a while back (Spring of 94... tripadvisor would not let me select that date, so it has it wrong). It was a trick to get to (I had to walk from the town of Hechengen). I did not mind the walk, but as other suggest it is not easily accessible by public transortation. My tour included only me (was not crowded). Kaiser Wilhelm is buried here and there are some other interesting artifacts (Prussian crown). There are great photo opportunities both of the castle on the mountain top (viewed as you make the climb up... if your doing it the hard way like me) and once you reach the castle.
