It is a pitty that the touristic service in Calw does not use this building for one of its touristic activities (such as a museum), as this building is a stately one. Its history does date back to 1620-1639 Calw to go with the 'social service ' inclination by Johann Valentin Andreae. Together with merchants of the city of Calw he founded the "Färberstift", a social institution which already at that time had a connection public library. He used the contributions of the Foundation for ensuring better parenting, support of the poor students, economic stimulus of craftsmen, nursing care of the poor, the sick, the mentally handicapped, widows and orphans. Impressed by the destruction of the city by the city fire in 1692 from 1694 Johannes Schill started the "stone house" of fireproof vaults. Because his business trips brought him to Bolzano he had in the course of time a penchant for the South Tyrolean building style developed. In this style he build a House. Hermann Hessse was with the "stone house" closely connected, because there is a brother of his mother lived (Friedrich Gundert).
