If you are there on a Sunday, then you should make plans to visit St Peters's Cathedral in the morning. Your plan should be to arrive around 8:30am as you can get a parking space in one of 2 close in parking lots. Parking is free on Sunday. Have breakfast in one of the local nearby restaurants and then head over to the Cathedral around 9:30 or 9:40 for the 10am mass. Seating tends to fill up so being there early will guarantee a seat. As you sit there you can take in the spectacular architecture of the Cathedral and then listen to the boys choir singing the mass.

The Gothic architecture of the present structure is stunning, however, all that remains from the Romanesque period (1273) is the Eselstrum or Donkey Tower. The gargoyles extending off the sides of the walls carry rainwater away from the masonry walls which would erode. The inside of this cathedral is known for the stained glass windows installed in the 1200s & 1300s. They are still brightly colored and tell the stories in the scriptures. Don't miss the laughing figure of Gabriel, the Angel of the Annunciation--it is supposed to be the only figure of an angel that is actually smiling. There is no charge to visit the cathedral & there is an English brochure that gives a good explanation of the structure.

I stand in awe and amazement every time I am in one of these cathedrals. With nothing but sweat, labor, and a few tools, these were built, and they stand today to glorify the Lord. Enjoy. Take time to pick up a tour brochure which gives you information, if you can not get on a scheduled tour! Check on the internet and see when a performance will be held and try to schedule around. I was not able to do this.

A very beautiful piece of architecture! It's one of the must see in Regensburg. Inside of the cathedral is very comforting - sacral architecture with beautiful glass vitrages and gentle lighting. You can visit also a mass every Sunday at noon.

Regensburg is a beautiful city with a rich heritage. you could take a walking tour and see the city in aroung 3-4 hours. The Cathedral is really pretty and an exhibit of the beautiful Medieval Architecture.

Well, a dome. Yes- it's big, quite nice like many others. BUT you definitely mustn't miss the choir- Sunday mornings at 10 (? better check again) during the mass. Breathtaking, vvv beautiful <3

This is a very well preserved church with very large and beautiful windows. This definitely warrants a visit if you are in Regensburg

Very impressive cathedral from the outside. Inside is nice, but as others have said, it is very dark inside. Have a great camera if you want to take good pictures inside.

I was lucky to find this cathedral in Regensburg. It is absolutely stunning inside as it is outside. Pictures don't do this beautiful cathedral justice. Make sure when you visit you have a lot of free space on your camera as you will want to take lots of pictures.

The St. Peter's Cathedral is a magnificent and impressive building, dominating the "Altstadt" of Regensburg. Inside the Cathedral, the enormous space and the gloomy atmosphere is striking. Going round the building, the large amount of ancient statues and sculptures is impressing. There are steps into the basement, where remnants of walls and columns from the Roman Empire age can be seen, also several grave stones of bishops of Regensburg. Impressive is the tribute to the Regensburg cleric, who dared to plead with the nazis in April 1945, not to defend Regensburg in order to save the medieval heritage. He was ruthlessly strung up by the nazis just for making this plea. Fortunately for us, most of the heritage of Regensburg survived WW II. The Cathedral of St. Peter has much to offer and should be included in your Regensburg visit.

This cathedral is an excellent managed Catholic Church that is maintained very well from the thirteen century.. I was amazed by the size and history it holds

This area has numerous gothic cathederals, and from the outside this one is truly spectacular. However, inside it is not as impressive as many of the others in the region and in fact is fairly plain.

Bavarian Gothic in style, this Cathedral has a huge interior with massive pillars & sculptures, many altars, beautiful stained glass windows & beautiful vaulting. It is very dark inside. The spires are 105 metres & dominate the skyline from every area of the old city.
