A free museum with great cloakroom, souvenir shop, baby changing facilities etc etc. Permanent exhibit consists of you walking through history seeing how the city has grown (you literally see miniature models of the city growing in size room to room). Everything on the exhibits is in German, however, in each room there are laminated sheets with a bit of background on the room written in English, Russian or Polish. There is always a changing temporary exhibition too so there is always something new to see. The museum is pretty quiet and you do often find the staff walking closely around following you through, but its not as bad as some reviews suggest! No pics allowed. I really love it and my German is terrible! Would recommend a visit.

It is a different place where you can review the history from Münster, you can take the special narrator for 2 Euros, the entrance for the museum is free.

Mostly all information are in German/English and French. Its like a little time travel through the city. Its starts from the founding hundreds of years ago until the second world war and what it is like today. Best, entrance is free (at least when I went, and i already went twice). Definitely a trip worthwhile.

We spent an interesting hour or so here learning more about the local history. Folding chairs are provided for anyone who would like to carry one around the exhibition. Even mid week it was busy with visitors of mixed ages.

A must see when visiting Muenster if you want to get a good sense of the city's history. I have visited this lovely city several times and this was the first time that I had an opportunity to visit this museum. Doing so gave me a better appreciation of the city's heritage, the extent of the devastation during WW II and its recovery.

A comprehensive history of the city. Especially interesting were the original cages in which the Anabaptists were hung from the Lamberti Kirche. There are many original artefacts.Essential if you really want to understand the city. And it is free.

Re Picasso Exhibition and Meisterhafte Malerbücher Great space and very central Very specialised Picasso exhibition on his connection with the communist party ( lots if doves of peace prints and posters). Plus some items covering his interest in the theatre. For Picasso enthusiasts great. The second part covers German artists and book illustrations. Again very specialised

I went to the museum because it was free and it was raining, but I'm really glad I went. The exhibits were well-put together, including a dozen or more models of the city at various points in its history. There were also models of a Münsterland farmhouse and an early 20c. shop that you could walk into. The videos were interesting and informative and the pictures and wall murals were very powerful, especially those pertaining to the Holocaust. There was also a special exhibit about toys, and several hands-on activities for kids. I will say that I didn't try to get printed information in English and I'm not sure if it's even possible. I do know that you can phone to organize a guided tour in English.

This is a really excellent local museum. Münster has a rich history, and much of it is on display here. It is in a really lovely space, and the displays are interesting. The tours are excellent. Really worth a visit.

I went here with my family on a whim because it was raining, but the staff working there really soured the experience for us. They treated us, a group of adults and almost adult teens, very rudely as though we were there to rob the place(which frankly had nothing we would have wanted at all;)They followed us through the entire museum, which was almost funny, because it was so ridiculous! We were the only people there, so it must be a very dull job, but that's really no excuse to treat us that way. The museum was okay, but nothing to write home about. (No photos were allowed, sorry)
