It was noticable the natural beaty of the tower . Terrific view . Lack of supporting team as well as some excecutives to explain the significant history of the monument .

If you have some spare time in Ouranoupolis why not visit this old Byzantine tower from 14th century. It's a landmark of the town, just next to the harbour. Tower is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 9am till 5pm. Entrance fee is 2 euros nowadays - for that you can visit a small exhibition of finds of the area and read some information on history of the tower itself. You can also climb few floors up but the rooms are practically empty as the works on the planned exhibition is still not finished. From outside it's quite nice structure, although the wooden balconies are not in good condition - I hope they will be saved or reconstructed.

There is very little in this part of Greece. Great food, lovely people, sea, sun, water, and a very old tower. Go see it there is nothing else

A very nice old tower building is good for fotos .We are passing very near on the way to Ouranoupolis port to catch the boat to Mount Athos .very attractive to tourist.

The tower is seen from a great distance and is a rather spectacular sight. But the wiev from the inside is not nearly so spectacular. The exibition inside is rather mediocre, but it is a shame not to visit the tower when in Ouranopolis. If nothing else, just to taste a little bit of antiquitu and Byzantine imperial greatnst.

Byzantine tower of Ouranoupoli is the landmark of the area and very impressive from outside. It is most probably the only byzantine tower in Greece in such good condition. On the other hand inside the tower it is not much to see. So do not waste your time and money to get inside.

This beautiful Byzantine Tower is the first thing you see of Ouranoupolis. The tower dominates the scenery from all areas. Is probably the most photographed area of the town. Make sure that you take pictures from the sea if you are taking the cruise for Mount Athos.

This was an interesting place to visit but several rooms were empty due to redevelopment. Disappointing that all windows were closed on the way up & there was no access to the top.

A really big tower, visible from most parts of the city. We liked it a lot!!Boats to Athos and the islands depart and arrive there, taxis and buses stop next to the tower. There are shops and taverns in the neighborhood.It was closed so we couldn't enter and look inside. It had some information written about the tower on a sign.We sat for a bit on the stone wall, admired the building and took some pictures. A place all visitors in Ouranoupolis MUST visit and take pictures with. After all it is impossible to miss since it is really tall.

The main attraction of the resort while you are expecting somebody to come back from Athos.The whole locality is full of Athos visitors waiting the next ferry.

The view of old byzantine tower is most impressive attraction in Ouranopolis. You face with a tiny village fill up with bars, restaurants and souvenirs based on icons and olive oil. So this tower, location and see beside it are the only one impressive attraction in city. Athos and the monasteries are behind Ouranopolis and for it needs to take an extra permit ion at the police station and for sure there will be much more to see. Let keep more clear if we talk for Athos this doesn’t mean at all Ouranopolis. The status there is a king of undeclared independent ant region. Tower it selves it’s a little bit degraded with parts of the tower not much secure. On the other side is not possible for visits inside. Or may be at this time it has been in restorations and refurbishing. The only things it’s taking pictures from each angle. Indeed it’s an impressive view!!
