It was a two hour bus ride to get there from Athens, but it was definitely worth it. Great view of the Aegean and breathtaking view of the temple if you're there at sunset. Bring your own food and water for the trip if you can (Cafe is nothing special), but plan to spend a few awesome hours taking in the view.

The place is simple - an ancient temple and a coffee shop. But the sunset is one of the best in the world. Definitely visit it during the sunset.Toilets clean. Not very friendly for children, unless you go after swimming in any nearby beach!

If ever go to Athens, Sounio is definitely a ‘’must’’ do attraction. Just an hour from Athens, you should not miss the amazing temple of Poseidon and of course the breathtaking view. The beauty of the blue sky and the sea in combination with the historicity of the monument will impress you. We really loved it.

Even though Athens has so many ancient temples, this one really stands out as it is so far away from the central part of Athens, out by the sea, high up on a cliff overlooking the coast, and that makes it unique. It is a long, long drive to get to it, but well worth it, for the scenery, the views over the sea and the coast, and the amazing old temple up on the hill. No matter what time of the day you go at, you will get fantastic views and photo opportunities. Definitely recommended!!

We had a great drive down from Athens (just over an hour) and the temple is well worth the trip. I suppose it's no secret but check the weather forecast and plan to be there for sunset. You won't be disappointed.

The temple ruins itself were fascinating to explore. Great views and interesting scenic ride out to the Cape.

We did a day trip from Athens to Sounion, taking the bus just off Syntagma square - took 2 hours and cost only £6 (£12 return). The temple is magical. Stunning coastal views...make sure you bring your camera. There is a restaurant next to the temple serving only sandwiches, but there is a small track just opposite the temple of Athena (which you should also visit, free, just a few 100 metres downhill from the Temple of Poseidon) which leads down to a hotel and several nice enough tavernas. These have outside seating and a fantastic view of the temple. The track is a bit hard to find so make sure you ask at the ticket office. There looks like a really nice coastal walk in the other direction away from the temple as well, so make sure you explore!Overall, a really nice day trip - just make sure you explore the other sites of Sounion (such as the temple of athena and the beach).

First it's not the best temple I have been too. But the view of the the temple and the sea is so worth the trip. Even with the snow and wind we had a great time!

What a great view. Our tour guide gave us a wonderful history and background to this location. It makes the location more special. I kept picturing something out of the Greek Mythology.

I love anything about the Greek Gods so visiting this place was at the top of my list. Wow o wow i was not disappointed it was truly amazing and people will say its just pillows of stone but to me it was so much more. To me its all about the myths that people believed in at the time and they believed so strongly about the Gods that they built magnificent structures all across Greece. We only went a few days ago and the weather wasn't too bad it was cold but at least the sun was shining i loved the fact that we went out of season and there was only the 2 of us up there, it felt like it was all for us to see and no one else. I believe its a great place to visit if you love mythology as much as me.

if you are in Athens during the full moon of August don't miss the opportunity to visit the temple whose outer space is open till late at night. In any case, the place is amazing since the temple is on the edge of cape Sounion where Attica meets the Aegean sea

I went to see this ancient temple with Chattours Cape Sunion guided tour. I booked the evening tour for 43 euros, tour started at 2 pm from there hub Hotel Amaliya. Temple almost one hours journey from Athens. Temple situated on top of a small mountain at Cape Sunion. Entry ticket cost 4 euros. From the bus stop, about 5 minutes easy ascent through a coffee shop with souvenir boutique. Our tour guide explained the history of this temple all the way. God Poseidon's, God Athina's and the other Greek myth stories behind this monument. When I reach the temple ruins only I realised the massiveness of the temple. Now only the columns standing, but still it's amazing. Already I visited the Parthenon at the Acropolis, this temple also almost same pattern of Parthenon. From the top of the mountain, views of the Aegan sea is breathtaking. Far away islands, some ships, everything beautiful. Strong winds disturb our stay over there. Because of the wind, I came back to the bus within 15 minutes. The guide told me, all the time this area is very windy, because it's a Cape. I had a cup of coffee and we return to Athens!

The ruins of the Temple are lovely and one can get very close to them. The site is exquisite overlooking the sea on all sides. We visited on a half day bus tour arranged through our hotel. It would be possible to take the tram to the end and then a taki to the Temple.

What catches the eye is the beautiful view of the landscape along with the coast of the Aegean sea. The sunsets and sunrises are a treat to the eyes with their shiny orangy colours striking the land. Nothing much is left of the Temple of Poseidon save some pillars. It stands on top of the biggest hill around that area, so it must have been a landmark for the mariners in those times. You can spend some time around the area and there is a nice coffee shop where you can sip through enjoying the breeze of both land and sea.
