Their is no better way to travel up the top of the mountain than this! It's a unique experience and well worth it when you do get there!

Whenever the weather is fine you should go to the very top of the mountains to the North of Innsbruck by funicular (cable railway), and the two sections of the cable car. As far as I know there is something called "Innsbruck Card" which includes also the tickets for Nordkette. I usually go there for skiing. Have a look at my photos taken in the area on http://www.panoramio.com/user/3029657?show=alland use the tags "nordkette" and "skiing".

Such a great ride, and perfect little trip, like nothing i've done before! Not a bad price either. The steep incline is pretty cool!

After taking the nordkettenbahn there were a further two cable cars to take me to the top of the mountain where the views of innsbruck were just inspiring, well worth the trip if you like beautiful scenery.

I'm assuming this is the cable car which takes you up the mountain directly above Innsbruck. There are two stops and both offer spectacular views. The very top was extremely cold and blustery on the day we visited and you couldn't stay outside very long. However, the middle stop was fantastic as it was protected from the wind by the mountain and with the sun shining actually felt quite warm. Outside they had a DJ and they provided deck chairs and they had some little sleighs you could sit on to whizz down part of the snowy slope. There was a large restaurant as well. There hadn't been enough snow yet to open the slopes for skiing but we were surprised with how many people were hiking up the mountain. A great way to see a very different perspective of Innsbruck and the surrounding countryside.

When you arrive be sure to purchase the Innsbruck Pass to ride all the cable cars and other public transportation for one price. You can get the tickets at the tourist information store. Beautiful views. Enjoy relaxing and some Gluwine while up there.

Great views and a lovely sheep at the top as well. Not much else to say really, go if you like views and sheep. We really enjoyed it and we love views and a sheep.Oh hold on. I do not think that the sheep is a guarantee. He did look like a regular visitor and he certainly did come down in the cable car with us but he might not be there now.

My husband and I were in Innsbruck on a clear day so we decided to do the Nordpark cable car ride to the top of the mountain. I really don't think it would be worth the price $30.00 if the weather is foggy. Since we visited in December it was really cold so we did not linger very long at the 3 stops. The views at the top 2 levels are spectacular and we took lots of pictures to remember this once in a lifetime adventure.

Leaving the same review I did for the Hungerburg Funicular, because it equally applies:My wife and I were incredibly excited to take the Funicular to the mountain top. The hotel helped us find it, but unfortunately it was closed. I cannot stress enough how much research I did to ensure it was open--checking their website, checking the city's notification of closed attractions--nothing. Just an 8.5x11 sign on the window. We first arrived at the Nordpark Cable Railways, with a sign saying that that was also closed for maintenance and directions to take a bus to Hungerburg. We put off lunch to take this bus up to Hungerburg only to find out the funicular was also closed.Terrible.

This is really a "must do" when you are in Innsbruck. We really enjoyed the experience and can highly recommend.

It takes only around 15 minutes to find yourself 1000 meter closer to sky and the view is breathtaking! The highest point with its 2307 m is another short ride and a 10 min walk away, so it's easy to reach it a take some great shots with surrounding mountains. There are restaurants and free toilets on each stations. Plan a couple of hours for the visit, in that case you can enjoy the views without hurry and walk at least the panoramic trail, which takes around 30 minutes. It lasted a bit too long, when I went down, but on the other side a quick ride almost 1500 m down would be hard to survive without getting dizzy. The whole way down from the top to the city center in three stages lasted around 40 minutes. It would have been better, if windows were cleaner, apparently too many people got excited and pressed their faces to the glass.Students get discounted price for the tickets, by the way)

We stayed in Saalfelden for a week over the Autumn halfterm-whilst there we walked in the beautiful local area and drove out to Salzburg and Zell am See. On our last day out we drove to Innsbruck, and although we couldn't find the two carpark for where we could have parked for free when using the Nordpark Cable railway, we had a fantastic experience going up to the top of the mountain. The day was quite misty to start with so we were uncertain whether we would get a particularly good view;we pondered whether to go right up to the top, for this reason, but are glad that we did.We paid about £60 for three of us plus a light lunch at a reasonable price halfway up the mountain-we felt it was value for money for sights that we saw. A MUST DO!!!
