maglic fortress

We had a good sized group with a couple 10 year olds, several young adults and a few adults in their 60s/70s. It's quite a hike to the top, but everyone made it! The views are amazing & the kids had a great time exploring. They have done a great job in the past few years of restoring the wood portions (which is how you get to the top). Last time our friend went, he said it was a little dangerous to walk around, but all the new wooden ladders, etc. make it all accessible. Definitely a must visit if you're in the area!

You really do not want to attack that hill :) The steep hills up to the castle seems to be an impossible obstacle.

Maglič and Kraljevo are both magic. Maglič is one of the best restaurated fortresses in Serbia. Maybe with somewhat too much attention for light shows. But certainly it you will have much fun in visiting this fortress. If you like history but also if you want to enjoy a beautiful panorama of the hills and the river Ibar.Kraljevo has a lot more to offer. Just 5 km away from Kraljevo you have to visit the famous monastery of Žiča with the astonishing red colour. The frescos of the 13th century have been lost, but there are frescos of the 14th century. They belong to the cultural inheritage of Serbia.From Kraljevo and especially from Maglič it is only 15 km on the road to Novi Pazar to Stedenica, the most famous monastery of Serbia.In the past 7 kings were crowned in Kraljevo so by this you can understand that there are several historical attractions in the neighbourhood of Kraljevo.So if you are going to the mountain resorts in Kopaonik, Golija or Zlatibor, you should not forget to visit some of the historical and cultural inheritage. Maglič is magical and by this it is easy to accept you have to walk for about 45 minutes to reach the fortress. Already during this walk you can enjoy the nature and the panoramas. From the fortress just look to the Ibar. KraljevoKraljevo is afgeleid van kralj, dat koning betekent. Aan de buitenzijde van Kraljevo staat “Manastir Žiča”. Deze orthodoxe kerk is gebouwd in Byzantijnse stijl omstreeks 1210 in opdracht van Sint Sava, de belangrijkste patroonheilige in Servië. In deze kerk zijn in de middeleeuwen 7 Servische koningen gehuldigd. Vandaar de benaming. Nabij Kraljevo liggen verschillende historische attracties welke een bezoek meer dan waard zijn. ŽičaDeze beroemde kloosterkerk heeft een opvallende rode kleur. Žiča ligt 5 km ten zuiden van Kraljevo. Net als Sopoćani (nabij Novi Pazar) en Studenica is dit een goed voorbeeld van de Raška stijl. Het klooster is rondom 1207 gebouwd in opdracht van Stefan Nemanja, de 1e koning van Servië. Helaas is het klooster verschillende keren geplunderd en vernield. Van de oorspronkelijke fresco’s zijn nog slechts fragmenten te zien. Wel zijn er fresco’s uit de 13e eeuw, welke tot het culturele erfgoed van Servië behoren. Samen met fresco’s van Sopoćani en Studenica behoren zij tot de oudste schilderingen van Servië. Andere fresco’s zijn nieuwer, maar zeker interessant. Een bezoek aan dit klooster is zeker de moeite waard en goed te combineren met een bezoek aan het middeleeuwse fort Maglič.MagličVanaf Manastir Žica ligt het fort Maglič ca. 15 km verder richting Novi Pazar. Het fort is in het begin van de 13e eeuw gebouwd en beschermde de handelsroute van het dal van de rivier Ibar tussen Kosovo en Dubrovnik. Maglič is een van de beter bewaard gebleven middeleeuwse burchten in Servië. De auto (of bij een georganiseerde reis de bus) parkeert aan de ene zijde van de rivier Ibar. Via een voetbrug wordt de rivier overgestoken, waarna een mooie wandeling volgt. Deze duurt wel ongeveer 3 kwartier.De looppaden in het fort en de afscheidingen zijn gerestaureerd. Toch is het belangrijk goed te kijken waar je stapt. In het fort zijn er diverse uitkijkpunten met een mooi uitzicht. Zowel op een mooie dag is het genieten van het uitzicht. Echter dagen met bewolking en wisseling van weertype, geven het fort en de heuvels ook een wisselende en soms fascinerende uitstraling. Om dit te laten zien heb ik enkele typerende foto’s van bevriende fotograven toegevoegd.StudenicaVanuit Kraljevo is de bekendste kloosterkerk van Servië, Manastir Studenica, goed te bereizen. Zeker vanaf Maglič is de afstand goed te overbruggen.
