Fantastic view of the city. Keep in mind that you have to climb stairs. Go to the top of the symbol of the city.

This is a charming 17th century landmark in the ancient city walls of Sopron. Worth the climb up into the tower for the panoramic views over the city rooftops, which are wonderful, even on a very cold and windy winter day.The down side is that the charming museum is underneath the museum cafe, which seems to blast out cheap pop music all day. The cafe is beauftiful but I fled from the inappropriate noise asap, which seems to appreciated and wanted by noone, other than the people who run the cafe, and it seems to be seriously lowering the tone of the entire landmark, sadly.

You must see the Fire Tower in Sopron inside too, not forgetting to see it by night. You will never forget the experience.

Sopron is a beautiful city.. Haven't really been inside the fire tower coz there is so much more to see Kim Sopron... The buildings and vistas were quite a treat to the eye

There are different colors on the different levels at night so make sure you see it at night too.For the visit, better have a nice day to enjoy the view otherwise skip it - for us it was borderline too cold and windy. Last steps are very high. Entrance fee is about 3 euros with some package deal (about 4 euros) to have a coupon for the coffee place downstairs (coffee is actually more expensive than the 300 forint coupon but wine is not!!! go figure). Some interesting roman ruins remains in the basement not to be missed with model of Sopron.

We only viewed the tower from below as we wandered round the old part of this lovely city. There seem to be lovely vistas and interesting buildings every way you turn and this really is a city to savour slowly. If you haven' t been to Sopron you should put it on your "must do" list.

Only decided to visit as it was within walking distance of the hotel we were staying in. The entrance charge is minimal, The climb to the top is not particularly strenuous and the view from the top over Sopron is delightful.

Climb the tower, the steps aren't that bad. The view from the top is worth every stair. I had the tower to myself for almost 30 minutes and the scenic landscape (and breeze) is fantastic.

If you are tired to walk through the town, take 70 steps up the tower and enjoy the view. You also learn from the roman history and you can enjoy a nice coffeehouse ..

The stairs are worth the view of the city from the top. It is a very narrow staircase....Make sure to see the Roman ruins in the bottom floor.

The tower is in a nice area for walking and the view from above is nice. The walk up is not too difficult.

We walked underneath this very impressive tower, built by locals to warn of fires by trumpet blast! Slightly spoilt during our visit by a very large pink banner advertising the upcoming music festival!

We spent several days in the Sopron area and marveled at how the bustling city has modernized and at the same time has made so many refinements to its centuries old buildings and infrastructure. We last visited Sopron in 1996 to visit my wife, Agnes', birthplace and where she and her family fled from in the 1956 revolution.Sopron is about a 1 hour drive south of Vienna and has incorporated Viennese culture and language (Austrians find the city a popular weekend destination themselves). It is also a short train ride from Vienna to central Sopron. The famous fire tower is a sight to behold. Fine restaurants and accommodations along with places to visit will make for a great itinerary. Young people do speak English and most wait staff and hotel staff are fluent and all are most friendly. Get on-line to the Sopron, Hungary visitors site and look over the attractions in and nearby. We stayed at a new guest facility that has 4 private villas surrounding a large swimming pool and is across from a beautiful recreational lake and a 10 minute drive to central Sopron. The owners name is Attila and Andi Buzonics, a friendly young couple. If you want to see what old Europe looked like but with fine cosmetic improvements then this is an excellent place to see it and in modern comfort.
