We arrived here after the long drive around Road 622 (which is fantastic but there are no facilities of any kind) and were starving hungry. So we had no interest in the museum section, dedicated to one of the main figures behind Iceland achieving independence in the 19th century. Instead we descended on the cosy cafe like vultures. Unfortunately all they had was cake and coffee, so that became lunch. Fortunately both the cakes and coffee were excellent and the service friendly. Also note that both the museum and cafe have a slightly shorter season than many other places on the island, typically 1 June to the end of the first week of September.
