we drove up to the ski resort, not for the skiing but the drama. A perfectly clear blue sky day other than the pollution below us. Arriving at the top you suddenly come upon a small collection of multi-story condos and hotels. Vistas are incredible at the top (see glacier? In back of hotel) while the drive to/from was breath taking, so much so my wife got a touch of mountain sick but then it is over 3,000 meters. Condors flying above the resort were a treat. It took us 90 minutes from central Santiago to the top, without hurrying. Most of the time we did not see any other vehicle. I no longer ski, but if I did I would have loved to heli-ski which is offered here.

We book a Andes trip with a popular local company and they took us on an adventuresome trip to this ski resort where we enjoyed the views and had a beer and sandwich overlooking the mountains. There are 61 curves up the road (and down again) so be prepared for a scare or two. One person got motion sick but fortunately the driver slowed down and let her out to walk it off. Another bus from the same company broke down on the way to the top and passengers were later brought up in our bus and then brought back done in another bus so give yourself extra time.

I could write a novel about the day skiing at Valle Nevado but will focus on the highlights:we are a family of 4 who have skied all over the worldStayed in Santiago wanted a day of skiing, a Thursday during high seasonHired a driver to take us to the resort, this was better then jumping in the Santiago bus line, nobody got car sick going up the mountainLeft Santiago at 8AM, arrived at resort at 9:30, should have left earlierWe had our boots and just needed skis, it took 2 hours to get skis at the resortWe rented the premium skis, they were pretty beat up, would have just got the standard skies if I were to do it againThe line for the lift tickets took around 40 minutes, Line for the food was 20 minutes, the resort can not handle crowds well, this was not a busy day. This was aggravating so expect the worse maybe you will be luckier then us.Lift lines were shortWatch where you ski, you can get on another resort were your lift ticket will not be acceptedSkiing was not very challenging but being from Washington DC, it was a run down the hill in July. Harder runs were like blues at Killington, easy to ski off the trail, no trees just rocks and with rental skis there is nowhere I wouldn't go, most likely why all the skis were beat up.Trip back to Santiago took 3 hours due to resort traffic.

We took a summer drive up the mountain and then realized we should have brought winter outerwear. The shrimp pilpil in the restaurant was the best prepared plate we have tried in a very long time.

We visited the valley for the views of the Andes and the ride up the valley (60 hair pin bends). We were not disappointed - spectacular views in all directions (bar the smog above Santiago). We even managed to see about 10 condors all flying together!

came here in November in the off season to do some sight seeing. the views are spectacular and the area is beautiful. it was a little chilly on the top and the air is thin if your not used to it it is close to 10,000 feet. be careful in the drive up and down the roads are very curvy and any people who get car sick may have in issue.

As Australian skiers it doesn't take much to impress us but Valle Nevado has blown us away every time we have visited Chile. No resort entry fee, no parking fee, no lift queues, no oversnow taxi, it was amazing. In Victoria we would have shelled out about $500.00 before even reaching the snow line.Enough whinging. The drive up is terrifying but amazing, incredible mountains and condors everywhere you look. We have driven ourselves before but would recommend taking the bus with a company like Ski Total, they were fine.We always have visited late in the season and usually ski on weekdays so we have most of the mountain to ourselves. I'm told it's busy on weekends but we have never been then.Mountain staff are great, one year I lost my mobile getting of a lift and after some quick radio chatter I had it back in my hands. If you happen to be in Santiago during the snow season a day trip to Valle Nevado is a must, even if you don't ski. We have skied at the other two resorts close by but Valle Nevado was for us just perfect.

We love this place, great skiing, reasonable temperatures and fantastic service and setup. Year two is gone but we're already thinking about going back next year. There are a lot of facilities for kids and new skiers but there are also great runs for more advanced athletes as well as lessons for those at any level (both group and private). You can also download an app with trail maps, weather conditions and forecasts and that sort of thing.

The place is so beautiful!!!! To get there is trick I was glad we had a experienced driver! The view is so amazing! The only thing I wasn't happy about was that they could tell you where would be better for you to start. Give you some hints! Since we were not so good on snowboarding yet! But the place is beautiful.

Relatively short drive from Santiago considering it's a city of 8 million people. Theres a good chance youll need chains in your tires to get up the final mile to the resort as the last mile of the winding road up can be icy. Short lift lines, lift tickets are about half the price of Colorado, US resorts. Fantastic trails, great lifts, friendly, helpful staff with very patient instructors (for my girlfriend). Scenery is breath taking, though you are above the treeline so don't expect any evergreens. I highly recommend a visit!

The road is a zig zag and the view is great. The sky station was close but it was nice to play with the snow and to try a pisco sour!
