This place is located on the north bank of a river, in the middle of the most traditional wine producing area in Chile, with a history that can be traced 500 years ago. Wonderful winery but the most impressive of the visit is the guide, manager of the small winery and self appointed wine maker, that adds character and passion to all the visit. He makes you laugh and think about the waves wine industry is so big in the rest of the world, desapearing into their own rhetoric, that they don't realize that wine started on a ground like Caliboro. Far from the big market and the big world. If you want some authentic experience in the development of the Chilean history in wines, take a trip to Caliboro. If you are just expecting the same industrial scale wineries you are going to find everywhere, don't bother to drive for a road of very little sings and very low directions to get the winery.

Caliboro is special place in the dryfarming land of the Maule Region, only 45 minutes away from Talca city. I went in january, right in the middle of the hot & dry chilean summer. I had the chance to have a country lunch with the locals as well as walk the vineyards of the operation. We listen traditional music while enjoying tasty food, drinking Erasmo's wine and sharing colourful stories. If you are looking for a truly unique experience, I highly recommend to pay a visit to Erasmo cellar and Vineyard if you ever in the Maule region, it's a place that will stay with you and it will make you come back for more.

Maule is a good 3 hours from Santiago, but it would be worth the drive just to visit the Caliboro (Erasmo) estate. Having led wine tours to Chile for over 18 years, this region is still off the radar of most of my guests, and it's really fun to show people the amazing potential (and history) that Chile has in areas that are off the main tourist route. My latest visit I was hosting a group of 10 mangers of some of America's top private clubs, and they were all blown away by not only the hospitality and the geography, but of course the wine.We were hosted by co-owner Andres Solar and Cesar Opazo, General Manager of the Estate, who drove down the dusty trail to meet us before we even got to the estate. After a short hands-on introduction to the vines, we continued to the bodega and house where we were greeted with aperitifs and a whole lamb, sizzling in front of the fire. One of the best traditional lunches you could wish for, great tour of the cellar, wonderful hospitality and some of the best wines in Chile. Only thing lacking was Andres partner, Count Francesco Marone Cinzano, who was back at his other estate, Col d'Orcia in Montalcino, Italy. Next time hopefully we'll meet him also!

We stayed in Erasmo Cellar, We were lucky to stay at Count Francesco’s House.Excellent food, people are very friendly, Most of all Wine is great! We had vertical tasting of Erasmo from 2002 to 2009. It was fantastic.Erasmo is few wine which has aging potential such a long time in Chile. I dare say Erasmo is the Best Wine in Chile. In addition, their late harvest wine is very unique and special, not only flavor and taste but also the way of making wine. We were lucky to see how they make late harvest wine. This is perfect place for wine growing. It was great experience. I miss Caliboro so much.Thank Francesco, Cesar, all staff.
