Well worth a detour if you like nature and natural parks. You can do day trip or hike for 3-5 days staying in rustic lodges along teh way or camping.

This is one place in Brazil that all visitors must make the effort to come to. The natural beauty and formations are impressive. You will need 3-4 days at least to see even the minimum.

Don't miss at least one day visiting this park. I spent 3 days doing great hikes, cave visits, waterfall visits. And that just scratched the surface. Go with a guide!

Nobody will never imagine that Brazil has such treasures! I will recommend to stay at least 3 days in order to see a bit of everything. First, start by the trip by car. You will see caves, turquoise lakes, dark waters, waterfalls.... You will swimm a lot and climb a bit. But definetly a must do! It's better to go during dry season (less people, more things to do and u still have enough water for the waterfalls and the lakes). 2/3rd day : you will climb and walk during two days, u will sleep and eat in the mountain. You will only carry a tent and its equient (provided by the travel agency) and some change. U will be able to drink water directly in the river. ItMs drinkable up there. But be ready : it's very hot. Not a lot of shadows. The air is dry and there is no wind. But at night it's chilled. The guide will cook for you (breakfast and diner) and lunch time is more like a snack. Even if you will walk a lot you will love every single place u will reach. Bring repellent and a dry bag as you will swim in canyons in order to see hidden waterfalls. Normally the guide will have one to put ur cameras and wallets but it's good if you have yours. If you do more days because you love trekking you won't be disappointed at all! Best (hardest) trekking ever! 380reais for 2 days all included145reais the day trip (park entrance included) I recommend two guides : Bimbo and Paulo (aka le Petit Colibri)

A stunning national park, with beautifull views in an amazing nature and the best of all ... not extremely touristic

Since the first time I saw a picture of this place I wanted to visit it, and finally I did. Nothing compare to the experience of being there; the landscape, the air, the amazing people, from all of the world, we meet on the way. Unforgettable.

My wife and I spent 4 weeks traveling around Brazil and our favorite experience was our trek into Chapada Diamantina. This is an amazing National Park that appears to still be in the infancy of development for treking. Many waterfalls with swimming holes, a cave on top of a peak, challenging hiking, amazing vistas and interesting rock formations... Instead of camping, the prefered overnights are in pousadas located within the Park. The pousadas offer good food and the ability to meet other hikers from around the world (staying at the same place but being led by different guides). Our time there was extra special because we were fortunate to have a wonderful guide named Raphael. He speaks good English, is very nice, and has a great sense of humor. If you plan to just do day trips, I would also highly recommend Dida as a guide. It is difficult to book a guide before you arrive, but I know these 2 have a Facebook page you can access. If you are staying in Salvador before going to Lencois, there is a remarkable pousada (Casa Da Vitoria) owned by Augusta. She will arrange tours with these 2 guides ahead of time and get bus tickets for you. Her pousada is amazing and the breakfasts are the best my wife and I have ever had.

I've been to different landscapes in Brazil and the combination of caves, rives , cannions and waterfalls has made Chapada Diamantina a perfect destination. If you are in doubt about going or not...you will see a very distinguish place. Brazil is not just about beaches...

We did not enter the park itself as you have to hike several days. We visited attractions around the park and did some hiking there
