I asked our hotel for a moderate trek that both myself and my wife could go on and he recommended this. 7km each way it looked like a good way of getting my wife into trekking. Alas that did not turn out to be the case as it is quite a tough trek for a beginner (the last 2 km involved climbing across rocks in the river and the walk had some steep climbs at the start) and we had to abandon her with a km to go. Which was sad as the final waterfall is stunning and overall I found it to be a fantastic trek and a good way to start my stay here. So if you are fit and willing to climb across rocks then I would highly recommend it. Not so much for a total beginner. Irrespective I would highly recommend a guide (we got ours from our hotel, Canto das Aguas, and he was excellent)

This was the first time for me to stand underneath a waterfall. The feeling was amazing and I am ever grateful to Sossego to have let me experience it! The walk there is very hard (lots of climbing over rocks and the path is sometimes not very clearly marked) and we did it without a guide but in hindsight I would recommend taking a guide there. Especially after it rained as the rocks become slippery and treacherous.

This hike is really worth it, this waterfall is soooo impressive. You can jump off the rocks as well. But first check other people if you are not sure. If you are in a good condition and are used to hiking I really recommend this waterfall hike if you are a few days in Lençóis.The path is quite easy in the beginning but after an hour and a half it starts to get really adventurous as you walk in the riverbed. The riverbed is full of huge rocks and you have to cross the river 3 times. Normally crossing the river can be quite easy over the rocks, but in after a heavy rain shower in the Brazilian summer, this can get quite tricky sometimes. On rainy days only go with a good guide ! When the river is dry you can try to get there by yourself, but pay attention on different paths. When you arrive at the end of the canyon, you are really rewarded with an impressive waterfall. You can swim in the fresh ( in winter cold ) water, you can even go behind the waterfall and there are great places to jump off the rocks. The hike itself is full of small waterfalls and huge rocks, really impressive.

The trek to sossego leaves right out of town, so very convenient and the scenery is beautiful on the way there as well as at the waterfall. Its about a 7km trek I believe and not for those who have bad knees or are too out of shape. It can be done without a guide, but you will miss out on some of the nice natural pools and other things along the way plus there are some challenging spots. Get a guide unless you are an experienced hiker / navigator. The waterfall is a very refreshing end to this hike (before you have to hike back ofcourse!).

great waterfall reached after a beautiful ans not hard trail, that's most interesting at the parts alongside the river...

It's a reasonably demanding hike, alot of scrambling over boulders, but not too difficult: we had a 12-year old with us who managed very well. Of course, it is hot! It took us about 3 hours each way from Lencois with plenty of time to swim at the waterfall and again at other falls on the way back. The canyon which ends at the waterfall is really impressive. I thought this was a really worthwhile day hike.

Staying in Lencois we knew we wanted to do some walks in the surrounding area. We were so happy to have chosen the track to the Sossego Falls. The walk has wonderful views, beautiful river scenery and some great adventure hopping the rocks in the river bed. Jair, our guide (you do need one for knowing the safe passage) was really good and knew a lot about the scenery, animals, geology and history of the area. You can find him at H2O-adventures. If your up for a serious hike (about 15 km return trip), want beautiful scenery and a little bit of adventure: this is your pick!

about 2.30 hours walk to get there, departure point Lencois, medium difficulty but absolutely amazed by the landscape ! All worth !!

Sossego was a gorgeous waterfall and swimming hole. Most people recommend taking a guide although I went alone - it took me 2 hrs. The first half of the hike is easy but the second is boulder hopping and climbing up through the river so if you are not a hiker definitely get a guide (and be careful if it has been raining - I would only go when it is dry). There are other watering holes to swim at on the way back to town. Only negative - i forgot my camera!

Took about 2.5 hours to get there from Lencois. 7km each way, last two a scramble over rocks. But well worth the effort!

It took me 3 hours to get to Cachoeira do Sossego. It's very hard to get there and besides a local guide, you need to have some experience in trekking (at least has to be fit) to get there. But the scenario is indescribable: you walk along the river, in the middle of the canyon! Amazing! But once again, it's not for begginers.
