What this really is is a small park with a few animals and maybe an orchid or 2 if you happen to be there during their blooming time. It you happen to be in the neighborhood, stop by, but it isn't something to go,out of your way to see.

We have been to many beautiful botanical gardens but this one doesn't measure up - am stretching to give it an "average". First, there were few orchids and those that were there were in sad shape. The other plants were ok but there were few signs identifying them. There were an abundance of some large rodent that was a cross between a rabbit and a rat they were "everywhere". They didn't bother me but I'm not sure why they were there. There were also a fair number of macaws but they all looked sad. Ideally can't recommend it unless you're pretty desperate.

During our visit to this small garden and mini-zoo we were disappointed that the orchids were not blooming (February 2015) and several of the animal enclosures were closed or absent an animal. The elevated walk through tropical forest was closed for reason unknown. Parking is okay in the area and the entrance fee is inexpensive but I would recommend this garden only if you have 30 minutes to kill. A few animals were in open enclosures such as tortoises, an otter, grey brocket deer, and a peacock. A few birds and primates were in their cages but inactive due to the heat (95 F degrees). If you only have one day in Santos, spend your time visiting other sites.

Beatifull , a reAl romantic garden from forties , magnific schulpture Naiade ( Ferri's) , but partially abandoned... That's the result of state ownership, and lack of private enterprise ... Few orchids ...

We were very dissapointed in the gardens. It was nice to have an oasis in the middle of the city, but went there especially to see orchids. We have more orchids at the grocery store in our town than we saw there. There are a few caged animals and some large rodents walking around.

e visited in Dec (2013) when the orchids are not at their best but the "gardens" (more "rainforest" than "gardens" in a European sense) are well worth visiting in their own right. There are animals everywhere - tortoises and small animals resembling a large hamster strolling around, peacocks - exotic fish in ponds, birds everywhere - an aquarium etc. etc. A fascinating place.

We visited the orchidarium mid-day which is free if you are over 60. We enjoyed the lovely plants and the small zoo. This small "island" in the middle of the city was filled with excited school children, my favorite part. Few orchids were in bloom, but they are everywhere in the park. The zoo is very small with a large cage of parrots and a few macaws. It was a nice escape from the city.

This was a beautiful garden with a variety of plants and animals to see but where were the orchids? We saw a total of 5 orchid plants in bloom. I was disappointed because I went to see the orchids not the oversized rodents running around. It is worth the trip if you go at the right time of year.

Relaxing walking around here, you don't feel you are in the middle of a big and bustling city. Must visit, can be done in 10 mins if you are short on time. Swings and stuff for kids. Benches if you want to eat a meal/snack.
