City Central shrine for those seeking blessings and God's favors, this super busy Franciscan church has daily Masses and novenas for hundreds of daily worshipers. Be kind to the poor at the door, this is there only hope.Though no photos are officially allowed, it is quite picture perfect for architecture. If you do visit, kindly whisper one for me!

This modest looking structure contains a very ornate and elaborate baroque gold altar. It is worth a look any day and especially meaningful on Sunday

We really enjoy seeing the old churches. They are all so beautiful decorated and have beautiful artwork. This is a place to add to your list of things to see while in Bogota.

Beautiful church where you can join others in a quiet moment. Quite stunning inside (it doesn't look much from the outside). Would recommend.

You walk inside and are immediately wowed. It's right on the Plaza Bolivar... so there is no excuse to miss it.

This church is definitely worth visiting. It is located near the Plaza Bolivar, so it's fairly easy to find. The altar and paintings are gorgeous. It is particularly pretty at Christmas, when the decorations are put up. Don't miss the small Jesus statue, located to the right of the main altar. It is said that the statue has real hair that continuously grows.

I visited the Iglesia de San Francisco early on a Saturday morning and was able to stroll through the entire church. Although I had read the reviews about the impressive altar, they had not prepared me for the amazement I felt when I ascertained the scale of the intricately carved figures behind, above, and around the altar. Another impressive feature is the sanctuary's wood-beam roof/ceiling construction, which has not been covered with gilding, plaster, or other ornamentation as in most churches. The vignettes around the sanctuary include numbered guides (look for small black placards) to help identify various figures and saints. During my visit there was a mix of obvious tourists (like me) as well as observant Catholics who came to pray and donate at the various shrines.

The altar in the Church of Saint Francis ranks high among all churches in the world. The intricate carvings and gold decor will shock you when you first lay eyes on it. The closer you get, the more amazing it seems. The rest of the interior and the exterior are very nondescript so it is easy to pass by and not go inside. Don't make that mistake.

I accidentally went to this church during a mid-afternoon mass, so I unfortunately did not get to walk around and admire its beauty. What I found most fascinating about the church was how it doesn't isolate itself from the outside world. Even during the service, the church doors were kept wide open, allowing for the street noise to blend with the church music.

The church of XVI centure, fantastic, original interior, wonderful piece of colonial franciscan art. Located in the city centre, close to la Candelaria so very easy to find. Note - taking pictures inside is not alowed!

this church is fantastic. In the middle of Bogota's downtown it is part of a 3 churches complex. They were buid together due to the different catholic beliefs. When you look from outside you can not perceive how fantastic the church is. Full of scuptures and gold.

Went to mass Sunday and could not believe the beauty of this church. I am glad it has been renovated and kept up, because it would have been a shame to let it deteriorate. Beautiful building, altar, etc.

The Iglesia de San Francisco is an amazing construction considered an historical building in the city of Bogotá, and I will recommend to visit it and admire the strong baroque style in the inside of the building specially at the Presbytery it is really amazing!

I've been quite impressed by the quality of Bogota's colonial era churches. San Francisco Church in particular is worth a visit, just a few blocks walk from the Plaza Bolivar and near the Museo del Oro. Interior is impressive and if you visit on a Sunday you can witness a full scale service.

From outside, it seems to be an ordinary church facade. A church in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Bogotan city life. Upon entering it, you are submerged in a total peace of spirituality. The antiquity of the " golden altar " invites you to pause and pray. The presence of Our Lady is also prominent where devotees place lovely flower arrangements for graces received.I came back to this church before leaving Bogota. Photos are not allowed. I think it is good to preserve its spirituality. Don't miss this place of worship. It is worth a visit !
