If you are here in Alice Springs for a few hours, Alice Plaza Shopping Centre is a good place to visit for a quick meal and some shopping. It is a located in central Alice Springs, right on Todd Mall St. It is a quiet mall with assorted busier eating establishments (which is primarily most of the shops here). Fawlty's Fine Foods had a good chicken/cheese quiche. They warm it up for you. You may eat inside (few seats in the store) or outside tables in the mall itself. There was a Chinese take out and sandwich place also. I noticed some shops to have closed up . The biggest store here is the Target- which only sells clothing and house ware items as appliances, dishware, kitchen items and household items. They do not sell any food or personal items (toothpaste, shampoo, soap, etc.) like the United States. It is only one floor . The only public restrooms available had a metal can outside the entrance to collect 50 cents charge for use. There was no attendant. It is an honor system. Outside the Alice Plaza Mall, is a pedestrian only mall- Todd Mall- a collection of small boutiques and souvenir shops , many of which were vacant and closed. The more expensive items, such as authentic Australian animals were tagged with a theft device in souvenir shops to avoid unnecessary thefts in the area. I had never seen that in my travels around the continent of Australia. Anyhow, it is nice to have the opportunity to walk around central Alice Springs and see how an outback city is.
