Brilliant restoration of the Town and surrounding area. Worth a look, to see the history, go and tour the buildings, a lot is documented in the courthouse and old jail. Fish from the dock and watch the turtles swim in.

Great restoration of WA history. Fantastic photographic opportunities. A nice drive to Wicham and Point Sampson also so make a day of it.

I know why the historic town of Cossack is now a ghost town. All of the former residents were eaten alive or carried off by sand flies! The town site and accommodation are near a mangrove / tidal area so that usually means sand flies (midges) and mossies, cover up and read up on sand fly bighting prevention techniques, You Have Been Warned, (pitty I wasn't) especially at dawn dusk and more so on full moons! Ok, so apart from that if you are looking for a clean and quiet place to bed down in a historic old building (the old police quarters) then this just may be for you. There are 5 rooms only, pretty basic with just a bed, aircon and fan, mine had a double bed and a single bed. There is a communial kitchen / dining area with oven, microwave, fridge, pots, pans cutlery etc. Outside a fly wired veranda (now that should have been my first hint of a midge / mossie thing) with a big table and tv. Off this area is the communial bathroom. (one shower and toilet). Shower was nice and hot.Behind the accommodation is a gas BBQ for use by house guests. There are no facilities for food or supplies at Cossack so make sure you stock up at near by Wickham or Roebourne.I would grab some meat and snags to throw on the BBQ for dinner and some bread for toast in the morning. Also remember to bring your own milk, tea, coffee, juice etc as this is not supplied. If you are into to the history side of things then this is a great place to stay, you can wonder around the nearby buildings, and the old wharf is just next door (take your rod).A friendly welcome by the caretaker, and a comfy nights sleep, with everything you would need, just bring your own food and drinks, and remember your insect repellent!Take a drive down to the old cemetery, the look out and the beach. This would be great with a group of you, if you filled all 5 rooms you would have the place to your selves, as it was I stayed in May and had the whole place to myself anyway, nice and quiet, very restful!

Cossack is about 10kms out of Roebourne in WA. It is basically a historical ghost town. Buildings are well preserved and the town is right on the water. Fishing is very good. Worth a visit. Point Sampson is about 15 minutes away. Great place for camping or caravan. Very small seaside village

Cossack is essentially a colonial ghost town with a bed and breakfast accommodation during the dry season and a boat ramp and stone wharf for fishing. The timber and tin buildings are all gone but several of the stone buildings have been well restored. Most were designed by the WA Colonial Architect George Temple Poole and demonstrate the typical delightfully quirky characteristics of his style. There is little interpretation of the town but there is a variety of documentation online that is worth downloading before a visit. The University of WA Archeology post graduate students often use the town as a key place of research.

Great for a short day trip and a little history/fishing. There's not much else here but the views are lovely and it is quite peaceful :)

Living nearby, we have a lot of opportunities to visit Cossack. It is amazing to experience the history here and wonder how people chose this spot to settle. It is very pleasant to walk around the cemeteries and go to the lookout where you can see Settlers Beach and Point Samson. A walk along the beach is refreshing. If you are here at the right time you can experience the Stairway to the Moon. Accommodation is available at some times of the year. It is worthwhile to visit during the Cossack Art Display/Competition when artists from across Australia are represented.

I think Cossack is unique as it is a historic town which would have been situated in absolute isolation and reflects the toughness and endurance of the early pioneers and pearlers. The gaol, post office and ocean frontage are a must see. It is truly a national asset that needs to be preserved. I'd suggest following up Cossack with the Roebourne Gaol which depicts the harshness and challenges of life on settlement as well as immersing you in some of histories shame in Aboriginal treatment.

We popped in to the old gaol museum which is also the information desk for Roebourne. The lady there was really helpful and enthusiastic about her town! It was so refreshing! The Old gaol museum was interesting and lovely in its presentation. We had a look at a few of the old buildings and lookout while we were there. Lots of building going on, so good to see the town will stay alive!
