We did a Sunday drive to Slater Homestead just out of Goomalling. We walked around the restored buildings dating back to the 1850’s. Most of the buildings have been beautifully restored and still in use. The old barn has a good collection of local photos. The main house has most of the rooms set up how they would have been in the 1850’s. We were very lucky to also see a photographic display on Australian animals by Janine Guenther in the old school house. The spoilt ourselves to lunch and scones. Thanks to the local volunteer lady who showed us around. True country hospitality. Slater House is easy to get to, just over an hour’s drive from Perth. Makes a great day trip.

Came here with the family on a Sunday afternoon and had a tour of the buildings and gallery. Very impressive work by local council to restore this historic sight.Apparently you can also stay at the premises in the restored homestead. There is a tea room with great coffee for $3 and you can get a toasted sandwich or Devonshire tea at an absolute bargain price. The volunteers go out of their way to make your visit enjoyable.Definitely worth the visit.Look for the homestead on the left 1 minute after the turn off to Bolgart.
