This street features in a number of Australian TV shows and an insurance advertisement. But make sure you look up as you promenade; as with many old buildings the real beauty is a few stories up.

This street has so many old buildings to speak of. The Royal hotel, Mining Exchange and the Art Gallery just to name a few. I love to wander up and down here whenever I am in Ballarat. I have managed 3 visits in the past 6 months.

A must see when you visit Ballarat, there are quite a few sights around the area. There is the Art Gallery and also the Mining Exchange. The architecture on the street is beautiful and kept well.

Lydiard street boasts many wonderfully beautiful old historic buildings that are well worth investigating both visually and historically. Each year the town hosts a heritage week which allows you to enter these buildings and explore them and what they were used for and by whom. Great for the history and architectural buffs!! We loved this street so much that we had many wedding photos taken here.

Don't miss Lydiard Street! From the historic Craig's Royal Hotel and Her Majesty's Theatre and Old Ballarat Gaol, now housing Federation University, to The Regent Theatre, Mining Exchange, Art Gallery and Railway Station, you will come face to face with the best examples of Victorian architecture and the wealth that poured into the city in the earliest days from its foundation, up until the 1890s, when a major financial crisis sent many of the cities great philanthropists and businesses near bankrupt!Guided walk information is available at the Ballarat Tourist Information Centre, located in the heart of Lydiard St, or you could join Eerie Tours, 'Ballarat Ghost Walk', in the evening, that features Lydiard Street and offers entertaining, historic information and access into some of the city's haunted past and buildings!Lydiard Street is free for the experience. In early May Lydiard Street, is the centre for Ballarat's Heritage Weekend, with a themed and fun exploration of the city's past annually. This is the best time of all to access tours of buildings in Lydiard Street, not normally open to the public, such as the Old Colonists Club and upstairs at the George Hotel. It is worth checking the Ballarat Tourist Information, or City of Ballarat website for details, as this is the ultimate time to see Lydiard street and Ballarat at its best!No matter when you are in Ballarat, Lydiard Street should be high on your list of the city's attractions!

Lydiard Street in Ballarat is a must! The historical buildings have been beautifully preserved and maintained - a credit to the town! Evening was a good time to stroll and admire the 1850's - 1860's architecture as there weren't many people around. The Railway Station was well worth checking out also.

Visited the information centre and collected walking tour of Ballarat brochure. This informative guide includes self guided tour of specific areas of Ballarat including Lydiard St (the info booth is also in this St). Wandered up the Street and referred to brochure which was informative about the different historical buildings. Wandered into quite a few also and pleasantly surprised by the beauty of bygone era. Great morning of exploration.

The tourist info centre has a booklet to be used for walking tours of Lydiard Street providing the history of the buildings. Ballarat has done a great job of preserving its heritage and buildings and as a visitor it's so interesting to be discovering its history. The wide streets of Ballarat and the number of historical buildings shows how prosperous and influential it once was.

You take a step back in time as you walk the street and view the buildings. Pick up the historic walk book from the information centre, which is on Lydiard Street, and read it as you walk and view. The walk will extend into Sturt and Camp Streets. You cannot go to Ballarat and not do this walk.

After visiting the information centre which is conveniently located on Lydiard Street, grab the brochure and take a leisurely stroll along this impressive street and have a look at the buildings. They tell you about Ballarat's history in a very unique way.

We stayed at the historic Reid's Guest House on Lydiard St. What a pleasure to walk along this street and admire the beautiful buildings. Many thanks to the people of Ballarat who worked to preserve this heritage streetscape

shopping was good and also went to the Movie theatre which was also on Lydiard street. Ballarat is such a big spead out town with lots of very nice places to eat. Not much to dislike accept the weather was not nice but it was winter when we were there.

I recommend the walk from the railway station/coach depot to Lydiard Street. Practically the first building you come to contains a Uniting church op shop; when you look past the bargains, chat to the friendly volunteers about the building's past and notice the splendid old stained glass windows. From then on you pass a plethora of low-rise colonial buildings with decorative facades, and you'll be thanking the gods that these have survived the developers.
