We drove to Malmsbury just to look at the viaduct. It was in good condition and looked magnificent but if you are a Pom it is nothing spectacular. My husband was disappointed as in his life he has seen bigger, better and older viaducts. The gardens were dry and dusty which was a shame. The drive from Daylesford was very pleasant.

The viaduct itself is in a good state, interesting facts about it. The botanical gardens are beautiful. Relaxing place to hang out with family or friends, barbecue area and restrooms are provided.

Wow! this was the last thing I expected to see when we stopped off to find a toilet for the kids. Decided to go for a stroll around the gardens and stretch ours legs and as we came around the bend there it was. A marvel of 19th century engineering. It was worth the 5 minute walk. There's an information board about the Goldfields railway that is quite interesting.

Built of local blue stone this is rather a spectacle, best viewed from the far end of the botanical gardens. Local shops add charm to this visit. We actually attended an open air wedding with the viaduct as the couple's chosen backdrop - that's how well even the locals see it.

The viaduct at Malmsbury is a lovely bridge spanning the creek, and well worth seeing, especially if you are lucky enough to see a train crossing.

this victorian viaduct is in use with v line trains from melbourne to bendigo and is best seen from the botanic gardens in malmsbury which are themselves a pleasant visit with well wooded surrounds and cool ponds

Go through the Botanic Gardens at Malmsbury to find this historical treasure. You can walk right down to the viaduct.

Malmsbury was a great place to stop off and have some morning tea. The Park and the Viaduct very scenic. The bakery was way overpriced though

Up close photos of Malmsbury Viaduct are magnificent. Its not far from Malmsbury Botanic Gardens. The Garden is not very big, good to take a nice quiet walk.

Absolutely stunning. Stopped in Malmsbury for a toilet break which were at the botanical gardens. Went wandering around it and there it was. The viaduct is beautiful and well worth seeing.

To see the famous Malmsbury Viaduct on the Melbourne to Bendigo rail line, it is necessary to either get off a train at the associated railway station and walk, or drive under the railway from the town.It is a classic viaduct, beautifully engineered around 1862 before the rail line opened in 1862. On my most recent visit I admired it and thought 'what a great subject for a painting', but alas I did not see any aspiring Nolans or Rembrants in the area.As the railway line north of Kyneton to Bendigo has been singled for much of its length (it was double track until 2004 or so), the viaduct is not carrying trains in the double track way its builders intended, but there is now a more frequent service than ever before with the growth in population. Hourly or better services on weekdays meant that I did not have to wait long to see a train, the timetables for which are viewable on www.vline.com.auThere is a nearby aqeduct. However like much of Victoria, the water storages are currently depleted.
