No hotel can afford to have a bad day with travellers. In those remote areas everyone is vying for the Tourist $ and tourists are their business. We went in for a meal and advised in a very short blunt way, the kitchen was closed. Unfriendly and unhelpful.Went nxt door to Cafe, placed our luncheon order and paid. Same unhelpful/unfriendly male appeared through an internal doorway and said to cafe staff "no meals, kitchen closed" plus other dialogue we couldn't hear, then walked away.Cafe staff then advised us Now becoming short, rude and aggressive....(we are sure he upset her).More occurred but needless to say we would not recommend the hotel or cafe for a meal.We all have bad days but this was unacceptable and quite distressing.

The Café is in town and associated with the North Gregory Hotel. Spacious café with a wide ranging menu. Had fish and chips - really good - $15.The actual Musical Fence (also reviewed here by Ann W) is just outside town and great fun. Metal instruments, including the fence, and lots of opportunities to have a go. Drums were the highlight

The cafe is attached to the North Gregory Hotel. Clean, modern look. Served by friendly smiling backpackers. Ordered the smoked salmon, hollandaise sauce, poached eggs on sourdough. Tasty dish. Bircher muesli was on the menu but not available, disappointing. Great coffee, chai latte, hot chocolate. Opens 7am, good if you want a hearty breaks before setting off for the day.

We walked into this cafe at lunchtime one day, only to be told that there was no cooked food available, only what was in the refrigerated display. On enquiring about the extensive menu posted right outside the cafe, we were advise that that menu referred to the bar cafe (?) inside the North Gregory Hotel, not to the cafe we were in. We left, and went over the road to the bakery instead. Not quite sure what was going on....

What fun we had here. An array of the most unusual instruments that you could try your hand at and with .... the most popular for us being the 'drums' ..... drummers we weren't but what fun we had.

We visited The Musical Fence Cafe on the two mornings of our stay in Winton, and enjoyed our breakfast on both occasions very much. All of the food ordered was cooked extremely well, using quality produce. Best of all, the coffee was excellent, probably the best we found during our western Queensland adventure. The surroundings are comfortable and attractive.

Having travelled around this great country of ours many, many times we were so thrilled to take a walk down the Main Street of Winton to find this fabulous cafe! We walked on in and were greeted by a beaming smile from Anna, to find out this was their opening day! What started as a quick coffee before driving off in our 4WD and caravan, turned out to be a fabulous 3 hours, meeting the locals and enjoying great coffee and food.

Attached to the North Gregory Hotel this place makes great breakfast pancakes with caramelised banana, maple syrup and ice-cream, kids loved it and so did I. My husband had bacon and eggs and was not as happy with his as his eggs were undercooked and whilst it came with a generous serving of bacon it came with only one piece of toast which was not enough for the amount of bacon and egg on the plate. Had the potential to be a fantastic meal though.
