Rainworth Fort was built in 1862 as a place to store food, as a return trip to Rockhampton, the closest supply town, took several months. It is run by two very special elderly sisters who are walking encyclopaedias on the local history and love nothing more than to share their knowledge. The buildings which also include an old homestead and schoolhouse, are genuine, as are the relics in them. A brilliant place to visit.
