This was an interesting experience for myself and my wife. Learned quite a bit about the industry and the milling process, as well as enjoying a taste of quite a few products of the mill. Well presented tour by Lynda and reasonably priced sauces and relishes to buy, along with the very friendly and helpful volunteer staff made this a very worthwhile activity.

Went to view and was shut for the day even though both the website and phone message bank claimed they would be open. Was severely disappointed. Thank you to the women at the information Centre who were very apologetic and friendly.

Staff and volunteers love have other growers visit our facility. Hope you shared some of your stories with us. The Australian Sugar Industry story is really a very educational and interesting story especially they way the farming equipment etc has developed over the years. Hope to see you back one day.

Thank you for your feedback the staff and volunteers at Sarina Sugar Shed really appreciate it. There is a lot of information to pass on in an hour and most people do find it extremely informative and interesting. Glad you enjoyed the products we produce. You know we can post some to if you require an order. Have a great day!

Our staff and volunteers are dissappointed that the tour did not meet with your expectations. Our tours can vary slightly from each tour guides presentation. Usually all tours are taken outside rain or shine and it is only when our visitors really dont want to go out in the rain that we do not. The video is the second one we have produced here and is close to being upgraded again. I will pass your comments on to the producers for feedback when doing the remake. The idea of the video is really only to give a brief overview as most people do not want to sit in the theatre longer than 10 mins and there is a lot to get through in the 1 hour tour. We hope that if you are comng our way again you will pop in and perhaps experience some changes.

Our staff and volunteers are so glad you enjoyed your tour. There is no greater story in Australias history than that of the Quensland Sugar Industry so happy to share with our visitors.

Thanks your comments have been passed onto our tour guide Lynda. We would like all our visitors to experience the great tourism attractions in our region after doing a Sugar Shed Tour. We appreciate your feedback and hope you will visit us again soon or refer us to your friends and family.

See our review of Farleigh Sugar Mill for a comparison of the two mill tours on offer around Mackay. This one is for people who just want a superficial exposure to the manufacturing process behind raw sugar. While this tour is conducted at a sugar mill, it does not take you through the mill and instead fairly unsuccessfully tries to demonstrate the milling process via a working model. The Fraleigh Sugar Mill tour takes you through and into the heart of a working mill and is the preferable experience in our opinion, having done both tours.

Enjoyable and informative with a deliciously sweet ending!Thank you for taking us on the journey of the jellybean, from the paddock to the plate. Prior to this tour I had no idea how sugar was extracted from sugar cane, and now I feel like an expert. Learning about the different products made from the sugar cane during the crushing process, such as fertiliser, electricity and ethanol, was a real eye opener! Our tour guide was knowledgeable and funny, and really made the tour very enjoyable. I now know the differences between molasses, treacle and golden syrup, and how white, raw and brown sugar are all made! I was very impressed with how the miniature mill operated, and enjoyed sampling the freshly extracted cane juice. The tasting session of the rum, liqueurs, sauces and candy floss at the end was such a bonus, a great way to end the tour and sample delicious treats that were made on site. I will definitely be returning to purchase more of the limited edition rum!

Hi Noel and Maxine,Thank you for taking the time to review your experience on our Taste the Action tour. Our volunteers have spent a good part of their working lives working in the sugar industry and are our greatest assets. Visitors leave with a really good understanding of the sugar industry. Thanks again.

Was very interesting was disappointed we didn't get to see the machines in action. Also was thought we would get to taste more products. We were also on a tight budget so $44 for two of us was a fair bit. If I hadn't been on a budget I maybe would give more stars! Very friendly people and knowledgable !

I have to be honest.. I thought this would be dodgy as I paid my $20 a ticket.. However, I was very pleasantly surprised.. Our guide was an experienced old gent, who had 40-plus years first hand knowledge of the sugar cane industry. Seeing the old machininery and learning about the sugar-making process was great.. I learnt so much here and loved the chance to drink freshly pressed sugar cane juice. The tastings after were good and the knowledge gained was really interesting.. As we left all stocked up with locally made nibbles, it made me appreciate so much more the sugar cane fields as I drove to Townsville. Definitely worth the visit.

Very informative tour. Our guide was a sugar cane farmer, and had so much knowledge. Never realised there was so much to the process of harvesting sugar cane. Taste testing at the end of the tour was very good.
